I've had my 14" bars move several times since putting them on.
First time I took everything off and retightened them and all was well till I hit a dip in the road and they moved again. When they move now I just push them back up, but it can't be good for things to keep doing that.
Messing with the bars on a SG is a pain in the ***.
I have one of these coming Friday. Anyone using one?
A customer at the bike shop I worked at had a similar problem with his Electra Glide after installing 14s.. We removed the bar clamps, took the caps and hit the mating surface with a flat file. Didn't take off any more than maybe a couple thou, at the most, ,but it seemed to have fixed the problem. Put the caps back on, tightened the bolts to spec, and all was well again. Worth a try if you have to get into it again.
I cannot speak to your year bike, but my 2005 has the two piece top clamp, no good for apes. I bought a $20 one piece top clamp from J&P, never had an issue. You can also just drill and tap your single piece top clamp and install your own set screw, maybe a one beer job. But that top clamp I would think will for sure solve all of your issues, good luck.
Those top clamps with the set screws work very well , I've installed 2 sets as well as one on my own bike . I also suggest replacing the rubber bushings with solid , although you might feel a little more vibration in the bars , but they will be more solid .
I've also read some folks put a small piece of emery cloth or screen in the clamp. You definitely don't want that bar moving mack and forth! The set screw clamp looks like a good plan.
I've had it apart before, and had to remove the plastic piece around the ignition switch. This time I didn't have to mess with it.
Clamp was supposed to arrive tomorrow, but it came today. My plan was to take it apart late tonight when it cooled down some...91 here today. Clamp came today, I took everything apart before it got too hot in the garage, it was only 80 in there earlier.
I'm gonna wait till around 1 or 2 in the morning to put the new clamp on and put everything back together. Should cool off by then. The clamp should help things stay in place.

I have the generic version of this top clamp on my '07 w/ 14" bars.
It is the only type of top clamp that I even considered, and the only type that i would ever recommend.
I paid about $30 for mine.
