Default Touring leathers and links

Well, first post here. First HD. I have ridden and raced street bikes at the track for about 5 years, rode street for about 20, ride a lot of dirt now. And I'm very familiar with crashing. Not what i plan to do on a Harley but I'm a firm believer in the dress for the slide not the ride.

I purchased a 2017 CVO Limited. This one to be exact https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/...ted-5021312240 and ill likely pick it up this weekend.

So I'm looking for some leathers or road rash resistant type clothing for me and the wife that won't be extremely hot with the full fairing blocking the wind. If that exists, my 3m race leathers and airbag are hot till about 100mph with little fairings.....

Also what upgrades this bike will likely want, IE LED lights, I've seen some clutch issues, I've seen some navigation/radio upgrades, etc.

Is there a shaved seat for this bike that keeps the heated function? or can i send the one it comes with somewhere? the goal is to get my feet flat on the ground. Not that I cant ride on ***** of my feet but it would be more comfortable to be flat-footed and i don't like to alter suspension unless there is no other option.

Rear seat "glamour" if you will. Anything that will make my wife happy. Cup holder, phone holder, back massage, pillow, lol.....I have no idea what so I'm just making stuff up but I'm sure some of you guys have figured out cool stuff to keep the wife happy back there when there's boring milage.

Tires? In my world tires are extremely important. What tires are ran on these bikes that would be considered top tier.....I dont mind replacing tires more frequently for better quality tires. We will likely not put but 1k-3k miles a year at best.....Also, what is the recommended dates that motorcycle tires are changed? On my race bike you get about 3 days on a tire if your good. My RV was a maximum of 7 years no matter the tread. Does a touring HD have a protocol?

Links, if you dont want to explain things and you can link me to threads ill go read them. No worries I appreciate that help as well.

Luggage? I carry tools with me on all my rides. What is the recommended tools to carry? Is there a HD "kit" that covers most sizes?

Millage, what can I expect to get out of one tank of gas? My riding style for this bike is touring, exactly what its made for. Speed limit with passenger.

Hopefully that's not to many questions. Thanks for any assistance

How about going to the Welcome area and posting an introduction there?

Wife and I ride with HD brand "air" jackets with ECE armor added. These jackets flow a lot of air keeping you comfortable without the sun load on exposed skin. Air jackets are available from many name brands you would be familiar with.
There are similar "air" over pants that provide the same road rash protection and most have armor pockets.

Well, I suppose because after all my years in forums, the welcome areas were of little use since I'm looking for specific information on touring.

Do you want me to just say HI I'm new here or should i copy the questions I asked here to there and delete this thread?

I have a Motoport Kevlar Mesh jacket... it's over 20 years old, and it's still great in humid riding. It's mesh, so it breathes... it's Kevlar, nuff said. I'll wear Firstgear mesh overpants for longer trips... Milwaukee Leathers chaps for cold.

I got away from full leathers on the road 20 years ago. I have a Dariensuit from Aerostitch that I use now.

I've run Metzler tires on my ElectraGlides since 1994. My new 2019 came with American Elite that I just replaced the rear tire at 7500 miles. I probably could have run it another 2000-3000 miles miles I'm guessing. It was at 5/32 and had it not been for the 2000 mile trip next week I would have not have changed it now.

I'm planning on changing over to Metzler when I change the front tire.

A lot of questions in one post... I'll comment on three of them...

I'm a leather guy, always will be.... but..... the current textile offerings from many companies are superior and more versatile than the old leather stuff... your only limit is your budget...

For your seat, try calling Mean City Cycles, or peruse their web site.... they do various seat mods and I believe they can add, or keep, seat heat elements... they have a good reputation on this forum..

As for tires, my go to for my baggers and my softails has been the Dunlop American Elites for many years... they work well enough for me that I don't bother trying other brands/models... If you search for them, you will see many satisfied customers...

Enjoy the new bike....

Leather - I don't own or wear leather. IMO its hot when hot and cold when cold, doesn't provide wind protection like textile. I wear a Tourmaster "air" jacket with full armor, also have a Joe Rocket waterproof with full armor and removable liner. In the winter I wear insulated, waterproof textile pants. My fav winter jacket is the HD 98235-13VM, its waterproof and windproof and easy to layer under, downside is no armor. I have found most HD jackets don't have back armor (I am sure someone will prove me wrong now LOL)
Lighting - there are many LED upgrades from Custom Dynamics and Harley, search the forum, you find many opinions. I have a HD Daymaker on my softail and love it and a Chinese knockoff on my SG and like it too.
There is a lot of rear seat glamour, Ive removed sold or thrown away a lot of that stuff on my Goldwing.
Tires - I run Dunlop Elite 4's, HD Dunlops. I have several bikes and tend to stick with Dunlops.
Luggage - The skys the limit, I have some HD branded stuff, a few old Harley Davidson by SAC bags. Bags are like chrome trinkets, Ive thrown away as many as I still use, just takes time to find what you like by trial and error.
Other - this forum is a great way to search threads and many, many opinion's, all valid.
Good luck and welcome to HD and the forum sir!
