Thanks for the review. Ive been looking at buying one of these (solo setup) for a bit but havent quite decided if I really need one. Same with the lowers. Maybe Ill give it another look.
I ride solo 100% of the time and when doing week long trips, I have a solo H-D luggage rack and a First Down luggage bag which has been adequate so far. I do like the look with the tour pack and it could help with quick grocery and/ or beer runs though.
I got mine thru ebay with chrome detachable mount and a lid mounted 3rd brake light for very reasonable as well. It was the same process of having to mark and drill the holes since I don't like the way the hd tp fits so I moved mine 1" to the rear for the long legged babes to have leg room. Havent had any complaints in fact some even say its more comfy that way that being straight up.
I should also note that the yellow dry bag strapped to the top wasn't very heavy. It has 2 full face helmets, 2 sets of rain gear, a wool army blanket and a heavy jacket. For a cheap Amazon rack it's holding up really well.
Anybody that gets this tour pack won't be disappointed. I changed several things but am still well under the cost of an HD version.
Wait a minute... Are you saying that two FULL face helmets will fit inside the chopped tour pack? Along with those other items as well?
I just completed a round trip from San Antonio to Louisville. Only complaint was that the latch seemed to vibrate loose.
Following cues from other forum members, I ordered the genuine HD hardware. During the installation, I noticed one bolt had backed all the way out, and another was held in place solely by the liner. Loc-Tite seems to be a necessity!
So far looks good, performs good. (And saved $100s!)
I had considered one. This long(er) term review will definitely weigh into my choice. Thanks for the update. Seriously.
I should also add the TP has about 5,000 miles on it. I've removed it a couple times for one or two commuter rides, but I love the extra space so much, I just leave it on - especially now that it's getting chillier and I'm wearing overpants and a jacket everywhere. I hop off the bike and toss my pants, jacket, gloves, etc. in the TP with plenty of space for other stuff too.
It gives me a lot more reason to ride my bike in instances where I otherwise wouldn't. Going to pick up a large pizza or two? Take the bike. Going for groceries? Take the bike. I can fit 4x 12-packs of Coke in the TP with some room to stuff things around/on top of them.
I thought the height inside the TP would be a limiting factor, but rarely had any issues. I have an Igloo Playmate hard-sided lunchbox/cooler and it easily fits (on its side, it's about 8.5" tall) in the chopped TP, then room around it for other things too. The only thing that hasn't fit in the TP is my FF helmet.
I still haven't gotten around to replacing the lock with a harley one that matches my other locks - I don't ever lock the thing lol

Wife and I are leaving for the coast Friday morning. They say with shipping it would be in by Thursday. I went ahead and ordered and I got the plate as well. Hopefully it comes in before I have to hit the road. She rides her own bike, but I'll be the pack mule.
