Hi all,
my 2012 flht came with the arlen ness air filter on it already. I need to replace the filter as it no longer fits flush at the intake but don't know if it is stage 1 or 2. Is there a way to tell which it is?
FWIW, the Arlen Ness instructions say that petroleum products should not be used to clean their filter, and to not oil it as that will cause the filter media to deteriorate.
True enough. While doing maintenance, I found that my A N Big Sucker filter media was disintegrated where the crankcase breather (twin cam 88) mist had accummulated.
At that, I assembled and installed crankcase to atmosphere modification as seen on many youtube videos. That replacement filter was $50. p/n#D639-7

Reason: additional info
would throttle body size be the difference b/w Stage 1 and 2??
Anything is possible but probably not. Stage 2 to most people means an upgraded cam, high flow air filter, and either a full exhaust or upgraded mufflers. Usually, the throttle body is upgraded to a larger size when doing a bigger engine build such as an upgrade to a 128 or 131.
have you looked at the filter dims on both.
first pic is what I run...AN big sucker with synthetic filter.
I only have the stage 1 big sucker. I have contacted Arlen Ness before and they are very helpful. I would just give them a call and ask them to be sure.
