Default Issue installing a jiffy stand spring

After much searching, I am left at a loss with a question for ya'll. I bought a Kuryakyn jiffy stand spring since my stand would not stay up nor spring back to place. I started by looking up how to do this, so followed the rotate the kickstand towards the front wheel and the old spring just fell off and I didn't catch the orientation before it fell, so I went back to the vids/forums to ensure I put it back the right way. I installed it but it was significantly difficult to get the spring into the tab on the stand itself but muscled it in. When I rotated it back to the up position after securing the nut, the spring fell out again and I noticed the hocks were bent out. I did notice that the spring itself rubbed on the stand as I twisted it back to the normal position but figured it was because normal.

I have seen two different things, either people have a tab under the bike to mount the other side of the spring to or the whole in the frame. I am trying to figure if I just have the wrong size spring, a broken tab off the frame or my stand tab is bent which is causing the spring to have too much tension and bend the hooks. Appreciate the help!

PS my wife did

Hole on the frame

Tab that might be bent

Old vs new

the paint/artwork!

Yea this is one of the videos I watched when trying to figure this issue out. I installed the spring the same way, which lead to the spring hooks being bent out. Since it is a different year and design for the stand, I was not sure if my tab on the stand is bent because it was definitely not that easy to put on like in the video. I had to use pliers to put it on the stand, even following these steps.

My tab is more pointed down when in that position, now looking at your pic.

You shouldn’t have to use pliers.

Check. You tube for video.
you loosen jiffy spring tab, move stand forward, unhook both end of spring, install new spring.

Make sure bike is on stand or someone is holding bike upright.

What year is your Road King....?? It's possible the aftermarket spring is the wrong one for your application...

The HD jiffy stand springs show two part numbers for touring twin cams....

There's one part number for '99-'06 (#50112-99) and then another one for '07 to "16 (#49725-07A)..

Its a 2003. I am going to order from Harley tomorrow and give that a try, and probably bend the tab on the stand down as kel03 mentioned. Springs aren't that expensive. I'll post once I try both, I appreciate the responses.

I wouldn’t bend the tab until you get the new spring.
Just maybe that tab might have come with a slight angle
Get your new spring and try it first
Just a opinion

Could be bad metal on that chrome spring. Usually skip chrome there, they don't make 'em like they used to. So I use the unchromed one.

kel03 has a 2010 bagger, which takes a different spring part number than yours.... it could stand to reason his tab might look/be different...

It would take a pretty hard curb hit, right on the jiffy stand, to bend that tab... I'd be looking to see if the Jiffy stand, the mounting, and basically make sure the entire jiffy stand pieces haven't been damaged, if the correct spring didn't work. I would also look into checking that I had the correct jiffy stand for my application..

I would replace parts before bending the jiffy stand to make it work... I know many people will "customize" something to make it work, and they are successful... But I'm not one of them. I would have to figure out why it's not working as designed.. and address it that way

Even if that tab got bent by some mishap, bending it back could weaken it... That jiffy stand is the only thing holding up your bike, when you walk away from it....

It would really suck if you weakened that tab, and then 6 months from now you put your bike on the jiffy stand, and it just fell right over....
