I have tried many different headlights with varying levels of happiness including genuine HD, premium aftermarket, and amazon/ebay. This time around I decided to give this a try by Moons MC, the 7" Moonmaker Fly Eye on my '22 SGST. I chose this for the looks (subjective) but was happy how light weight it is and how good the light works. You will need the optional wiring adapter for '14 & up but I choose to try mounting without purchasing their headlight bracket and it worked fine without it. Install was typical simple install of headlight, remove outer trim, remove basket, install adapter, install headlight, test low/high beam, put everything together. In my opinion the headlight is brighter and better then the stock and many others I have tried and looks great and fits great and reduces weight so happy. I will do a follow-up if any issues. I also wanted to shared a couple pics, there are plenty on the website but none with comparison of size and thought this may help someone.
How is the light pattern compared to the HD led? Similar? Inquiring minds would like to know...
To me it seems more complete and less defined just light in a complete area and less of sections of the brightness with dim spots if that makes sense. I also was surprised but find thee temp of the light to be perfect for my eyes and does not have the blue'ish tint that makes everything appear as different. I need more time behind it in different conditions (I generally do not ride the highway) but expect the light to perform well as it has on dark unlit mountain passes, country roads with stores, strip malls, and busy intersections.
Sorry Arthropraxis, you were next in-line, but I wanted to honor the first person that contacted me.
Ed,
I have used many of the big name and also many of the cheap and can tell you this one does well and I am not disappointed. I do lots of night riding especially mountain passes and good lighting to see the animals (think moose, deer, bear) is critical and I am staying with it because I am happy. I did drive into the city last night and no disappointments there either, the transition from city to suburb to rural to mountain never disappointed and I only thought about the lighting noting in my mid how this one lacks the spotty places and lines in between beams that many other lights have.
