Default Your Thoughts On This Bike

A friend is looking at this bike. He has a dyna, but wants a bagger. He can trade in his dyna plus about $1500 for this bike. Is 34,000 miles too many? Is the price too high? Bike has a lot of extras. It's at an "indy" shop. What do ya'll think? I know he could do better from a private owner, but he's been trying to sell his bike for awhile and has no offers at all, and he needs to sell or trade in his bike because of the money. He'd like some advice before pulling the trigger on it. He's mostly concerned about the miles. Is that a lot? The bike seems like it's been taken very good care of.

2006 is "that year" for the TC, right? Need to make sure it has the updates.

I would keep looking, especially if trading in a good Dyna! Tell us more about his bike

The miles don't scare me but the fact that there's a good chance it has the old and original style cam chain tensioners is the biggest concern. I really think for 10k he can find something 2007 and up and eliminate the cam shoe concern...even if mileage might be higher. I'd rather have something that was risen and maintained than one that sat idle for most of the time with same fluids likely for years.

Did he ride it or, is it just eye candy right now. I wouldn't buy anything I can't ride.

Here's what the Electra Glide Classic is worth... $7,200 average retail... it's way over priced IMHO...

Year: 2006
Make: Harley-Davidson
Model: FLHTCI Electra Glide Classic
Model Type: Cruiser
Displacement: 1450
Cylinders: 2
VIN: 1HD1FFW16
Finance Advance: $5,930
MSRP: $17,795
Avg Retail: $7,195
Auction Wholesale $5,995
Clean Trade: $5,680
Fair Trade: $4,870

I would need to know what year/model your friend's Dyna is to know if it's a good deal.... The delta between the two values is more important than the asking price of the Electra Glide....

The main thing that bikes NEEDS is to have the spring cam tensioners addressed... It's a known weak spot on those early 88" twin cams. At 34K miles it may have already had that remedied, but if not, it needs to be done ASAP...

If it hasn't been done, figure a minimum of $1K to have a shop do it the cheapest way. Your friend can do it himself, for about $300 in parts to over $1500 in parts, depending on the quality/type of fix he wants to do...

Your friend would be much better off selling it outright. Then he can shop for a bike freely.
