I too always carry paper maps for any trip I take......they don't need power, never freeze up, don't wash out in the sun and never a need to zoom in or out......lol

I really don't have an issue with the stock NAV as it works for me. Actually prefer it to Google Maps/CarPlay. That being said, I too like to take paper maps with me for backup.
Just got to make sure to have my reading glasses with me to "zoom in" This aging thing bites!
I’ve got the Apple Car Play jumper on order. The bike is new, with about 130 miles on it. The dealer said they would need it for a couple days to check it out. I’m going to deal with it until the 1k mile service and then I’ll have it checked out. The Apple Car Play will help in the interim. I agree the Nav system on the bike is pretty good when it has me located correctly. I’m wondering if there is an issue with the GPS antenna or something.
I can’t figure out why Harley made the process of connecting a wireless headset so damn complicated. The requirement of needing a WHIM module is a senseless money grab in my view.

While there's a good portion of truth behind it, I believe one of the requirements of the carplay (apple and google that provide the solution) is to have a microphone connected; so it's either plugged in mic or wireless, which requires WHIM. Bottom line - in this case, I think, HD is just meeting requirements; does the solution justify amount of $$$ asked, probably not but it's HD

Right, agreed. My main point is this though . My phone can connect to the bike via Bluetooth (without a wire), just like it does in my vehicle. In my vehicle, Apple CarPlay works with just. a Bluetooth connection. Why did HD make this process so complicated? The answer is to sell a WHIM, that cost them about $17, for $400 retail plus labor. It didnt have to be this way.
I recently traded in my 2020 Indian Challenger for my 22 Road Glide ST. (another story later)
The Challenger had Apple Carplay as a standard feature out of the box. No need to install or purchase anything. I simply plugged in my iphone to its USB port and had Carplay. I also had the ability to bluetooth my headset directly to the bikes ride command system, and was thus able to hear Waze directions on my headset.
The Harley, on the other hand, requires you to purchase a $300 WHIM in order for you to bluetooth your headset, and the headset MUST be a Harley branded headset. (apparently they have some sort of locked protocol if not)
Using the $15.00 jumper option (found on Amazon, and plenty of youtube videos on it) will allow you to "turn on" Apple Carplay and use it when plugging in your iphone to its USB port, BUT you will NOT be able to hear NAV directions on your regular headset even when your headset is paired to your iphone. The bluetooth connection is cut the moment you connect your iphone to the USB port for Apple Carplay, and you can't directly pair your headset to Harley's BOOM Audio system.
That is my problem. I can use the jumper option to enable Carplay but I would like to hear the directions on my bluetooth headset as I wear a full face helmet and can barely hear the directions coming from the bike's speakers. (exhaust and highway sounds drown it out)
With that said, the only real solution is to give up and purchase the WHIM and HD branded bluetooth set. Plus pay HD dealer to flash the ECM in order to enable the WHIM.

Someone please tell me i'm wrong!
Agreed. They could have made it so much simpler. I will use the jumper, as I dont care much about hearing verbal navigation commands.
