Default Ohlin front suspension experiences

Bike is a new to me ‘04 EG Std. Any comments or suggestions regarding the improvement in handling if I install the Ohlin front suspension?

Still going to have the original air shocks in the rear for a few months after any front suspension upgrade. I’m changing the lowers to chrome and figure as long as I have it all apart I may as well upgrade the suspension.

Thanks in advance for all comments.

Ohlins front will help it track better and not be as soft , when you add the rears you will really see a total overall improvement

I got the rear shocks 1st. That was a dramatic change. I add the front Ohlin FKC 101 cartridges for the front later. I'm happy with them, but the rear upgrade is a must!

Ohlins Nix 22's for me. Amazing once you get used to no fork dive EVER. Really, touch the brake and maintain the same ride height as you blast around a corner etc.
No font end dip. Get the rears also, new bike!

Ohlins makes fantastic front and rear suspension components, so no matter which components you choose, as long as they installed properly and setup correctly, you will love the dramatically improved ride (performance, no brake dive, control and feel, and stability).

you are absolutely spot on choosing to upgrade and improve the front suspension while tearing it down to install chrome fork legs. You have a lot of choices, but if your budget will allow, I recommend installing a sealed fork cartridge set - Ohlins or your favorite suspension manufacturer of choice - they are virtually maintenance free, with only small amounts of oil for basic lubrication.

While you are in there taking the front end apart, check the handlebar bushings, and replace those as well with polyurethane bushings, if the oem bushings are in there.

Thanks for your thoughts. The handlebar bushings is a good catch. I would have overlooked that. I changed the bushings on a Heritage once due to the increased steering effort needed because of the rake. That improvement was a night and day difference!

I have Ohlin’s on the rear of my ‘15 Ultra Ltd and the difference over stock shocks was worth every penny.

Thanks again!

I have Ohlins 022 shocks and love them and also want to do Ohlins fkc 102 front but don't want them to feel harsh as I've heard Legends can feel, no offense Legends guys but I don't need the sportier feel.
Looking forward to your review of them

Is sealed fork cartridge set different than Ohlins Nix cartridge set ?

Also I note down about handlebar bushings. Any good recommendations on polyurethane bushings ?

The Nix cartridges seem to be for 2014 and up. The Ohlin front suspension for my ‘04 looks to be a bit less sophisticated than the Nix set up.

I’ve used HD polyurethane handlebar bushings and will use them again.

Both the older and newer Ohlins fork cartridges are NIX, meaning one cartridge is for rebound and the other compression damping. The newer has external adjustability and the older is adjusted internally.

I have a 13 King with the Progressive monotubes up front now, and am considering the Ohlins for a bit more "plush" ride.
