Default How much is not enough?

This might sound silly to a lot of you more experienced riders, but when is evident to you that you need to change back tires??
My bike has 27,500 miles on it and I do a good amount of 2 up riding. The tread is still very visible, just not very deep. I dont want to needlessly spend money, but I also dont want to be broke down on the side of the road, or worse.

You have 27K+ on your back tire??? You should remove it and have it bronze plated - If there is still tread and the sidewalls are not checked - ride on... I would save you got your money out of it by now...

The tires have wear bars on them. When the wear bars are even with the tread its time to change to stay safe.
Another way is, if you have to ask, its a good bet it's time for a new tire.

I change mine before it gets to the wear guide. Tires are your only connection to the road, better to be a little more broke than dead in my opinion. Just last weekend saw a guy with a Metzler Tire than part of the tread separated. Ask him how many miles and she said about 7,000. He was riding two up in the hot Arizona Desert when it went. Good thing was that it still held air and he was able to cripple it to the dealership. He claimed defective tire, I claim he was pushing his luck!!!!
I would rather be poor!!!!

As far as I know that is original. I bought the bike with 17K on it, and the dealer had just puta new front on it....
Wear indicators........I will take a closer look and see. I would imagine Im close.

Thanks guys. This is a great source of information!

If you've got 27500 out of one tire, front or rear, I want to know what brand and model you have ??? I would about be readyfor my fourth back tire at that mileage.
I got a buddy who swears that you have to do at least one BIG smokey burnout to "cure" the tire. Funny thing is, I think he might be onto something because he gets about as many miles out of a tire as I do and he definately "cures" them more than once.

If dealer replaced the front, then its on its third or fourth rear, you get 3 times the miles out of a front over a rear.
