Fork lock
I would like to remove, inspect and repair or replace if needed.
How do I remove it?
1. Is it the key in the lock cylinder dragging or the switch itself?
2. If it is the key in the lock cylinder there may be dirt or corrosion. First try some brake cleaner to flush it out and working the key back and forth. If it gets better spray a little dry silicone lube in there and work it back and forth.
3. If the brake cleaner flush does not seem to help, spray a little WD-40 in there as that will help with any corrosion.
If you are going to take it apart, you will probably need to remove the Console.

Its like, you dont want to use the fork lock because its seems difficult to get the ignition back to starting position , and you dont want to get stranded...
First off,,,, if you have a air compressor ,, give the ignition a good blast down the key hole..... Then spray some wd40 down key hole.... Give the ignition some turns,,, see if that helps...
Yes, you can research how to remove/ install the ignition switch and check. But if the tabs keys , (down the shaft), are damaged you could be in a world of hurt ....
My advice if you have not removed ignition switch before that is not working smoothly is ,,, find a friendly dealer or indy ,, and get them to check it in workshop... Its one of those jobs they probably wont charge you.... Just my opinion ,,, Good luck ....
yea it feels like it could get screwed up in there if ya try to move the ignition without that pressure....
Being 15 years old, it must be getting worn.............
FORK LOCK
FORK LOCK or maybe
STEERING LOCK.....HANDLEBAR LOCK.
Nothing to do with the IGNITION LOCK.
The key drags as I turn it. Did not do that before and at 85000 miles and almost 20 years old I guess something has to give.
I'm not going to lock it again until I inspect to see what's wrong.
I'm assuming it's worn out and its time to replace.
