I don't think I have ever heard of a juffy breaking.
Funny you should say that. See this thread. I'm sure it is rare but apparently it does happen.

I haven't owned a harley long.....so I was parking my street glide in gear. Friend of mine says on his electra glide classic he just looks down and makes sure the stand is sitting between the bolts. That works a lot better for me than guessing...so each time I set it on the stand I visually look to make sure it is engaged between the bolts before I get off. You can see where it engages without getting off the seat if you lean over a little and look behind the shifter.

Blame the way the newer jiffy stand acts on short people!!! The old stands used to swing forward about six inches further. The stand foot was in front of the foot board when you looked down at it from the seat. Since the arc was more than 90 degrees, the weight of the bike kept the stand forward unless the bike was parked on a down grade. The problem was short legs couldn't easily reach the stand to retract it unless an extension was bolted on. They reduced the swing of the jiffy stand on the newer bikes so they are straight out to the side so short people can reach it but the bike now easily rolls forward on the stand.

mine would never do it until i went to a new dealer for a service and i think they greased it because its really easy to put down....but now it does the lean forward as well. my friends 99 ultra always does it and everytime he gets off he walks away and it creaps forward. makes me flinch every time.

Mine does it on my 04 Ultra. It is great when others react to it and come running to your bike to stop it from falling.

I jumped all over this one when I took delivery of my new RK Custom last month. I was sitting on it, the guy was going over the controls, etc., and when I got off I put the stand down and leaned the bike into it.....when I let go, the bike rolls forward about a half an inch and freaked me out. I see why it does it, and the guy explained that it is normal.....unlike the cardiac rhythms I was generating at the time.

It still unnerves me to this day even though I know what to expect.... I was at a HD dealership and the morning bikes were going out on the floor (about 50). The bike attendant really had a routine when parking each bike.... he said he HAS had one roll and drop...so standing along side the bike, he pulls back on the bars while holding the jiffy with his foot in a very exact routine on each and every bike.... just a thought...

I'm still getting used to the stand on my '08 Ultra. To me, it seems to stick almost 90 degrees out to the side. I know it goes slightly forward, but not forward enough for me. That and the fact I'm still getting used to the fact it doesn't seem to lean the bike over as much as I'd like it to. First time I put the stand down I didn't get it all the way forward and leaned the bike down. Luckily, something didn't quite look right as I started to get off the bike so I leaned it back off the stand and checked; I was able to move the stand another 3 inches forward.....[sm=oopssign.gif] Wouldn't have been too happy the first day with the bike if I had left it like that!!! I double/triple check the stand now to make sure it's all the way out before leaning the bike over.

WOW this is funny. I was just noticing this tonight thinking to myself this f**king bike is going to fall over. Every time I would put it down on the kickstand it would shimmy forward a bit, and it was driving me crazy. Although, I noticed when turn my front tire towards the lean it’s not as bad.

I can now sleep tonight knowing that its normal.

I have got into the habit of holding the stand forward with my foot when leaning it over. Also always leave it in gear when putting on the stand.
