Well boys, I`m what they now call old school(what ever the hell that means, I'm just old.) I ain't through fightin with the stand yet. I got the wife to hold the bike up right, I made sure the stand was locked in place and tightened the nut on top of the stand. It turned a good little bit. After that it seemed to make a diff. Didn`t roll foreward with the same free will as all ways. But that didn't last too long, went right back to the same old way. I'm gonna tear it down and see if the square hole that the square peg goes in is wore any, if not I'll put it back together, add a little locktite to the threads, tighten the **** out of itand see what that does. If that don't work, I'll move on to some thing else. It may be "normal" but I still don't like it.................
ORIGINAL: Arctic Badger
Drop to first gear, turn the engine off, release clutch, roll forward untill the gears stop the bike from moving foward, put jiffy stand down. No more drifting foward.
I'm with Badger!
I've done it this way with every street bike I've owned and never had a problem. [sm=smiley20.gif]
Watch, with my luck the bike will tip over tonight..........[sm=bomb.gif]
I'm the same. Shut it off, put into first gear, release clutch & let it roll until it stops. Then put down the stand & you won't have a problem. Learned that after having to many small heart attacks while watching bike roll ahead.
I was just talking to one of my buddies about this! We have a bet on who will croake first reaching for our bikes while putting our kick stands down.
At the dealer the salesman puts the stand down to show me how to operate the bike and it starts to roll. I just about freaked myself out jumping to the front of the bike.
I know it works but like most have said, it's a weird feeling watching your bike roll forward like that.. Anyways...
Make sure to check the locking tab on top of that stand. it has a square hole machined into it to couple to the jiffy stand. I have seen that locking tabs square hole wear cause the nut wasnt tight enough. It will fail after a period of time if it isnt replaced and the nut torqued propely...
My friend has a RK, several times i've been there when he puts the stand down and it sort of rolls forward, I've made a dive forit almost everytime, he just goes, "that's normal" OOOKay. LOL. I've got a RK and Heritage, still watch the stand like a hawk,.
Got the same scare on my 07 RG I also had a real good scare when on my first ride home from the dealer. I was wearing a set ofAddidas runnung shoes and they have a pretty rugged sole. As I pushed the jiffy stand into place it got caught in the sole and like locked into place. Like all logical people I reversed my actions and it woudnt come loose! I ended up standingthere with my shoe off trying not to fall over. It was if it was made to interlock with my shoe!
