Default 2013 flhx issues while starting.

Ok basically stock 13 flhx that sometimes when it's cold or hot when I go to start it it kicks back on the starter. 99% of the time I just switch the ignition off then back on and it spins over and fires. I have an appointment to swap out the acr solenoids but am wondering if it's actually the solenoids failing because I can hear them click when I flip the ignition on. Or if it could be the compensator worn enough even though it just rolled over 30k miles last week. Rather not waste money if the solenoids aren't what's causing it. It kicks back mostly when it's hot but not always. Kind of a gamble wondering if I'm going to get it fired or have to f with it a few times to get it fired up. And I have a pair of woods tw555 cams on order along with lifters etc. Next up will be a rekluse clutch setup with a billet trask basket.

Does it clunk when you turn the ignition off? If there's an audible clunk that is most likely the compensator. It might not do the clunk every time depending on how stuff is left inside when you switch the ignition off but if there's clunking with those miles the compensator is worn.

Can't really fathom how compensator would cause kick back on start but if it's like 1% of the time I would not worry. Spark plugs old?

Compensator is a common problem with those symptoms. If you’re fixing to do some motor work, put a compensator on your list. 30k is time for a lot of them to be replaced. Mine made it 40k + before symptoms, but I run mostly highway and high rpm’s. Lugging kills compensators.

How do you do that with a EFI bike? You should not have to touch the throttle on start or there is something wrong with it.

Next time it happens, do not turn the switch on/off just leave the switch on and open the throttle a little see if it fires. I had a similar issue on my ‘12 FLHTK and it was one the ACRs has gone bad.

Pay attention to your thumb. I found that mine will do that some times if I let off the start button too soon. Mine takes a couple of extra turns when it's hot. Muscle memory can kick in based on a regular start and you lift off the button before it's really running.
