Default Primary oil level

2011 flhp road king. I have a manual they just give ounces not height like my other bikes. I was wondering just put in the ounces or go by the clutch basket in amount of fluid

Just set the level at the outside diameter of the clutch, same for all big twins since mid `84.

100 percent go by your eye, it's the only way to make sure you have the right amount.

Please excuse the dumb question, but I'd be overfilling if doing it by eye on the lift VS on the side stand, right? Seems like it would take more oil to level up to the clutch basket.

Just wondering if I've been doing it wrong.

Primary oil needs to be checked and adjusted with the bike UPRIGHT, not on the side stand.

I know this is old school stuff. But I love how we're supposed to have the bike Upright for Pri and Tranny oil checks, but we only have a side/kick/"jiffy" stand. (No center stand) I guess they expect you to have a friend around to help.

Yes, I have a lift but I hate wasting 30 minutes putting my bike on the lift JUST to check oil. But that's what I do when I check those levels. (I usually have other things to do when I use the lift so it's not a complete waste)

I'll get off my soapbox now!
