Default Check transmission level

I know this has been beaten to death but I can’t find it. I just bought a 22 street glide special and the little booklet says to check transmission oil with bike on side stand. I’ve owned several HD’s over the years and have always checked with the bike upright in a chock. And, what’s with the plastic dip stick?

Bunch of pantie waste engineers. They calibrated the stick for it. Engine oil has been that way for a while.

If you ever lower bike or other such things, note new line on stick if it's drastic.

Plastic stick is a good thing. Least when someone manages to break it off in there, the transmission will digest it with no indigestion.

Your bike would've cost a lot more if it was metal.

Just get a matching side stand.

The little booklet knows all, do what it says.

Which dipstick being plastic are you talking about? My trans dipstick is metal. Oil dipsticks have been plastic on all my Harleys dating back to 2012 so that shouldn't be a surprise to you.

Can you post a pic of the plastic dipstick? Just wondering if it's easier to see the fluid level. The chrome finish on the metal dipstick makes it somewhat difficult to see the fluid level.

BarneyBoy, that's why I use Redline shockproof tranny oil. A bit easier to read on that chrome stick.

Thanks for the pic! I can confirm a dull black finish makes it easier to see the fluid level. I put a piece of black heat shrink tubing on my chrome stick four years, and many miles ago. Still holding up well.
