I know this has been beaten to death but I cant find it. I just bought a 22 street glide special and the little booklet says to check transmission oil with bike on side stand. Ive owned several HDs over the years and have always checked with the bike upright in a chock. And, whats with the plastic dip stick?
Which dipstick being plastic are you talking about? My trans dipstick is metal. Oil dipsticks have been plastic on all my Harleys dating back to 2012 so that shouldn't be a surprise to you.

Thanks for the pic! I can confirm a dull black finish makes it easier to see the fluid level. I put a piece of black heat shrink tubing on my chrome stick four years, and many miles ago. Still holding up well.
