Recommendations for ignition module
1. Install aftermarket timing module and keep my stock ECM & Power Commander III. This would give me direct control over timing, but would still require more dyno work to get my bike running properly. I'm done with dyno tuning.
2. Get an aftermarket timing module and convert to a carburetor or Delphi EFI. This would be a time-consuming effort, and probably an expensive one by the time all was said and done considering all the parts that we need to be acquired.
3. Purchase a ThunderMax ECM and get rid of my factory ECM and Power Commander III. I'm still left with a few components of the Magnetti-Morelli fuel injection system that could give me trouble down the road.
I think for the time & dollars involved, the ThunderMax is absolutely the way for me to go. Since I already installed O2 sensor bungs in my pipes, I can have the ThunderMax installed and working within a few hours and be done with it for $1000. I'd have spent that much on a carb conversion by the time all was said and done, and it would have taken me months probably and countless hours searching to get the parts for the task, then the hassle of doing the conversion itself. A Delphi conversion would have cost even more.
I'm very confident this will make my bike run properly for the first time since I had the engine rebuilt, give me better fuel mileage, lower emissions, a smoother running engine, and greater longevity as well.
@hattitude Thanks for the recommendation! I'll post later how this goes. It'll probably take a couple of weeks.
