Take a jigsaw with fine tooth blade and cut off your windshield.
Sand the edge smooth. (fine sandpaper, then alcohol, etc._)

Make it so you can see (I believe) 20' in front of the bike *JUST* over the windshield sitting up straight. THis will generally be when the windshield lines up with your moustache/below your nose.
yea, I avoid dark shields. I had a super cheap one early on but at night it was a PITA. Def medium tint, works well.
I had a cheap one called black wave and you couldn't see a spotlight shining thru the front side. This dark smoke is too dark I have to always look over it instead of thru it after dark. I usually prefer to look thru a windscreen instead of over. I'm 6'2 and the one I have from Freedom Shields is 11" and I may get a 10.5 from them. F'd up got in a damn hurry and removing the plastic so I can't return it.

I bought a 14" Long Ride Shields once, it was a bit too tall, was not difficult to sell on Craigslist. Maybe worth a shot.
