Default Tuning up the tuner

A few weeks ago, thought I'd be a smarty-pants and ordered a ThecnoResearch tuner. Found not a lot of support available. Back to the drawing board. Found a ThunderMax with Wave Tune auto tuner, great deal 100.00 off orig price, preprogramed MAP, all god to that point. Then ebayed a set of stock pipes with the o2 ports. Mine was on it's 2nd set and set 2 brazed repaired so then I thought I was ready to "get-er-done". All went well with the install, so here I go,,, I thought! Started up it ran like S--T. Decel poping and not smooth at all. Talked to my Indie mechanic and he said call Zippers had a product, Pop Stopper. Their shiping was way too much. So after begging and pleading, I got an email," what bike do you have, mods. etc. Bang, I was emailed a Map, and since I had installed their RS511 cams, I said why not. I put that Map in, eventhough the tuner was bought elsewhere ZIPPERS got me up and running. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say" Zippers has the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE and apparently the best tech support too. My little TC88 rocks like a big dog. I am now a Happy Camper

I love my TechnoResearch tool for settings, but I don't have the ***** to deviate from using PowerVision for my ECM maps.

Fuel Moto customer service is awesome for me, but it is always great to hear that there are others out there! I have a Zippers cam in my bike, and I seriously considered them for my big bore parts, but FM just laid everything out there, and made is so easy.
Jamie even wrote a custom tune so I could use my HD Smart Tune Pro wide band module to get it running when I was done building it.

Let ME CLARIFY,,,, just a wee bit. The ThunderMax arrived programed with exactly what few mods. I had made now and in the past. 1. H/D WingAir air cleaner 19 years old but SE design innerds and new A/C filter. .2. Inexpensive "Shark Road 4" slipons. very lightly baffeled and loud. 3. Feuling 8011 HF conversion plate. 4. Feuling 7060 HF oil pump. 5. HLJ 2313SE lifters, set .125 preload. 6. S&S Quickies. 7. S&S bearing set. 8. Zippers Red Shift 511 cams. 9. New spark plugs. 10. Fresh tank of NON ethenol 93 proof gas. 11. The new/used OEM stock pipes off an 08 RK with the 18mm o2 ports already in place for the o2 wide band sensors needed by the TM system.. 12. Snadwich oil filter adapter got the rebuild kit, a gasket and thermostat, I did reverse the t-stat spring so it free flows the oil. I believe that covers everything except oil change and ARP fasteners which I don't believe effect the MAP very much. So,, with out stirrin the pot so to speak,,, I will plead the 5th on where it was purchased.

difixit, you can plead the 5th all you want.... but some of us pay attention to details...

I seem to recall this post.... sound familiar...

"Well,,, I changed my mind! Sent the Techno back to DK, went to Fuel Moto site. found the ThunderMax for my bike and it was on SALE,, yea for me. Spoke to sales yesterday, ordered last night. They programed it and shipped it today"

So it would seem that FuelMoto's tune didn't work for you...

I am a loyal FuelMoto customer, and my experiences have been their tunes are really good.... but no one is perfect... FuelMoto usually goes the extra mile to make things right...

So I have to ask....

Did you give FuelMoto a chance to make it right? Did you do a data log and send it to them with a description of the issues?

I would like to hear details on your experience, and why you had to go to Zippers to make it right...?

In any case, glad you got it running up to the level of your expectations....

Well Sir,, you are correct. I did get the Tuner from Fuel Moto. Thought my mods. were fairly simple and with all the rave reviews I recon I expected a better/not perfect Map out of the box. As the rig I bought has the auto tune I knew it would learn and make adjustments over time. I live in an area with a wide variety of roads, some rolling highway, some interstate, lots of curvy, hilly back roads and a fair amount of what makes the Dragon's Tail look tame. So I knew it would take some time to adjust for all those varying road conditions. I had stopped by the my Indie shop, which is more of a hang out for me since I've been doing my own wrenching as it was along the route for my first trip out to see how the tuner was going to work and get in some road time to let it start making adjustments. He looked over the work I had done over these last many months and was , ,,well I'm not sure impressed is the correct term but happy to see what I had done worked out as well as it did. He is a dealer for Zippers and knew they had an inexpensive part that would cut out that decel pop and not impede the auto tune. He thought he had one laying around but couldn't find it. When I returned home, I pulled up their web site. and found the part at less than 5.00 BUT over 30.00 to ship. I had sent them an email ONLY asking if they might send it usps at a lesser rate of shipping cost. I was not given instruction to nor was my intent to seek a different Map, all of that came about as I was just asking for a little break in the shipping cost. It was more like asking Santa for a new pair of socks and getting a new pair of shoes to go along with the socks to replace the ones that had holes after 19 years of wear and darning the holes closed had not held up well. That is the reason I "Pleaded the 5th" and did not bring up Fuel Moto in my observation of the difference the Zippers Map made. I was just stating my experience of Zippers going above and beyond with out even being asked anything about a different MAP and the fact I had not purchased the tuner from them either. I was just trying to share my experience and not disparage a well thought of company. But since you did ask,,, that is the story. It may be for a variety of reasons the Zip Map worked better, they do make the 511 cams and I did leave a message on the FM Sticky Thread re 103 cam shoot-out and never got a response. I was told by all that commented on my statement re; that fact, that FM was a very busy place and likely wasn't able to respond to my question so I was a little disappointed but understood that and when I said decel pop. it wasn't just now and then, it was constant. So,, again,, was not trying to knock FM by bringing them into my experience. I do have a question for you as well. As I have not purchased a tuner before I knew it would have needed a Base MAP loaded my question is do they hook the o2 sensors up and test run before shipping it out? I guess they do, the sensors came with what appeared to be anti- seize on the threads and light brownish color on the sensor tips. I guess that would be a "Best Practice" method to verify all parts were working properly. Anyway,,, again just trying to share my experience while not Poo-Pooing a well thought of company. Hope that answer is what you were looking for as Hattitude and a few others have been very helpful with my first dive into the deep end of this project.

Wasn't looking for anything. I didn't ask the questions and certainly didn't imply you were obligated to answer them.
