Since you're talking "performance bagger", something else to consider is the length of shock and or the swing arm you want to run (now or down the road). If you run a full length, you likely won't be able to run longer shocks, or some of the aftermarket swing arms. The full length exhaust will likely hit the axle nut, where the shortly won't. If you get a good cam, good shortly exhaust and good tune, you shouldn't notice a huge difference in the low end. I went full length for the same reasons, but really wished I'd gone shortly. I'm starting a 2022 RG build too and will be going shortly this time.
Awesome, if you find some good data on which pipe really performs the best, please share! Fuel Moto is releasing their new Contender any time now, I'll be taking a hard look at that one.
I've had a full length fuel moto, a short stealth, and now a fuel moto Jackpot Riot, all on M8 road glide.
I dynod the same exact bike/motor with the full length FM and shorty stealth...pipes being the only change. On paper it did what youd expect...going to the short pipe lost me a few TQ, and moved the curve a little later.
Honestly, didn't feel any difference in the seat. I don't think any quality pipe will make a noticeable difference vs. another quality pipe.
The major benefit of a shorty to me is axle access/tire changes, and the ability to run 14" shocks. I prefer a mid length like the Riot, because it still goes under the bag a little, while stopping short of the axle/shock mounts. Best of both worlds IMO.
Some of the stainless/shorty pipe thing is definitely fad/looks, even if people wont admit it.

Will do. I had the Jackpot Riot on my FXLRS and it was a great pipe, so I'm sure the new Contender will be too.

Great, thank you! Did you notice any resonation issue through the bags?
dont you have to use the head pipe that comes with the harley 131 kit? the cam, tuner, headpipe, heads... all designed to work together as a warranty compliant package.
you can get more performance by reducing weight than chasing incremental gains from exhaust modifications.
You want to go fast?
TITANIUM !!!!
Titanium pipes, Titanium hardware, make every part on the bike from Ti when possible.
Ounces add up to pounds
I know one guy that lightened his 520 pound stock bike down to 380 pounds
HP to weight ratio counts.....
Trust me, if there were an awesome shorty titanium exhaust, even for $2k, I'd be the type of guy to buy it. You are preaching to the quire! I had one of these on my GTR, they don't come this color but turn this way over time:
Miss that car...That exhaust was a lot more than $2k too.

you're assuming OP gives a **** about his warranty

Yeah if I was building a warranty compliant package, you are correct. I live in Maine, and I'm not familiar with any big name builders in my area. My Harley dealer does a ton of 131's though, and has a tech they are really competent in. So I'm looking to do the 131 kit, sub out the cam for a better one, sub out the exhaust for a catless 2-1, and have the bike Power Vision tuned. Hopefully to around 150/150. So, no warranty in that case.
