We have had way above temps.; 100+ degrees. I have been getting around 44 mpg and every once and a while around 46-47. It rained this evening and I went for a ride to enjoy the cool air. I got 48mpg! now that I think back when I get 45 or above mpg it is cooler. Strange
Have you ever noticed yours better in cooler weather or is it the mountain air
If you are making more power then you're a little lighter on the throttle for a given speed Yeah I noticed on a cooler day I do seem to pick up a mile or two to the gallon cruising.
The cooler the air the more dense it is. The more dense the air the more that will fit in eachrev of the cylinder. More air, more power, less throttle to get you where your going.
If that's not it, it's cause you ride alot faster when it's hot to cool down. So you burn more go juice.
I did a test one might say last Sat... It was a cool 68 degrees and rode 130 miles; got 46.67 mpg. On the return home it was 95 degrees and the same milliage. 130 miles got 44.2 mpg. I used the cruise both ways with good traffic. Rode the same speeds also. Yes, I am sure during the 100+ weather I might ride faster but not by much. I am a older guy and like to cruise. I have another bike I ride when wanting to get somewhere fast or faster.
