2010 Strret Glide

Bought my first Harley this past April and just recently having issue when starting what seems like slipping in the primary then eventually starts . Sometimes worse than others or not at all. Please let me know your thoughts

Bendix drive, comperstating sprocket, clutch slipping, bad teeth on clutch basket, or bad teeth on starter drive?

Could be starter clutch. If when you press the start button and it starts to turn over but then spins out that would be the starter clutch slipping.

Thank you this is exactly what it's doing so wasn't sure if it was best to get starter out and take apart but will probaly go ahead and purchase starter what do you think? Just wanted to make sure something else wasn't going on in primary . Another question so you think i need to get into primary or this could be all dome from other side?

If it was mine, I would drain and remove the outer primary and figure out what's happening before buying anything. 🤔

Dont just throw parts at it. Take the primary cover off and examine it.

Agree with Vec, remove the outer primary to see what is going on. It would be a good time to have a look inside and check for problems.

I didn't see the mileage listed, but there were some compensator failures that typically started with clunk noise on start up and shut down.In more severe cases, the compensator ramps can slip and not crank the engine over.

If the starter clutch is bad, I'd replace that rather than a complete new / rebuilt starter. It's not difficult and much less expensive.
