Default Muffler End Cap Question

I am getting new mufflers for my 2014 Ultra Limited soon. I ordered slash cut end caps which can be mounted pointing up or down. Most bikes I've seen have them pointing up. Does anyone know if the orientation makes a difference in volume or tone? For me, the quieter the better. Thnx.

You could try mounting both ways and see which sounds better to you. If you don't wear earplugs when riding, will 2 or 3 dB matter?

My mufflers come cut with slash up, but I wear ear plugs when I ride, so it's a non-issue to me.

It's more a visual than an audial.

Agreed. Personally I like the slash to match the angle of the bags.

I had SE slip on with end caps, I could mount them in any direction, up, down, in or out, for me down was the quietest.

I have a lot of problems with ringing in my ears, pretty much all the time but especially after a ride. Thats why I waited 8 years to replace the stockers, but they have gotten noisier over time. I always wear ear plugs and have tried different ones over time to see what works best for my ear canals. If I could do something to drop 3 dB I definitely would. I may try your suggestion of seeing which orientation seems quietest, or if there is any real difference.

Does it make that much of a difference? I just like how they look this way…
