You can't work on these bikes without a factory service manual. Parts book is just about essential too. HD is charging extortionate prices these days but you save the cost of it the first time you don't have to take your bike to the dealer.

On my 2000, there was a grey/green wire and a black wire running to the bank angle sensor under the left side cover. I grounded the gray/green wire to the frame as a way to bypass the sensor, When I did that, the bike stopped acting up, so I felt confidant ordering the ($80 at the time maybe?) replacement sensor and never experienced that issue again..

Thanks for this information. I have finally managed to get round to disconnecting this wire and it has solved the problem. It has thrown the red 'Engine' light on though....is there a better way to permanently bypass this?? I don't want to shell out for a new sensor at the moment.

Great to hear! The red light is 'normal' when you do that but buy a new sensor (ya' cheap bastid!)

I don't think that it will cause anything catastrophic, but I don't like to guess. (Even a used one on Ebay maybe?)
