Default RE: To Ultra or not

i got a buddy that has an 07 fatboy, he always looked at my ultra as a granpa bike.(were 34) until I let him ride it now that son of a biscuit eater wants one he even apolagized to me for comments he made about it behind my back. my wife loves the secure feeling she has with the tour pack. I started on an 04 sportster and thought Fthe dumb $hit im gettin something that i can use everyday, love taking it to work I can put my lunch box in the tour pack, put my helmet in there so i dont gotta carry it in. the stereo is nice when me and the wife are just cruisin the back roads. I only have 2 things i dont like about my 07 ultra the 5th gear noise and the heat i think i got the heat solved i enrichened my thundermax so im waiting for a good hot day to retest it. if hd would have just made that 5th gear the same as the other ones it would be the perfect bike. just my 2 cents. p.s. i did get more looks from the ladys on my sportster but i gotta good wife so i dont miss them, i think lol.

Heat shields alone will do the job.

I had a sporty for several years, then went with a Fatboy, which I love. But I got tired of changing eveything out for the long road trips. Even tho all my stuff was detachable, every time you take something off and put something back on your taking a chance of scratching something up. I too, for years called the Ultra a "old mans bike" lol But I have sense ate those words!!!!! I finally broke down and got myself an Ultra, mainly for road trips. Now I have my Fatboy solo'd out for local bar hopping and poker runs ect. And the Ultra for road trips, but I find myself riding it much more than I thought I would. So many factors to the ultra... music, storage, comfort, conveince. Yeah it's a much bigger bike, and I'm not a real big fella, but I have managed it pretty well so far, and the more I ride it, the more I like it. I do have the detach tour pack which is nice, and a solo seat, I have had this Ultra stripped down and she looked pretty good, but then decided to go back with all the Ultra stuff, afterall, thats why I bought it, and I now have the Fatboy all to my own!!!! Did I mention my other half loves the comfort on the Ultra, and she even gets to pack her hairdyer now on road trips!!! lol After riding the Ultra, my Fatboy is like riding on a scrub board,butt..... the Fatboy will stay in the stable for years to come, I love my ultra, but I love my boy too!!! I think a lot of it depends on what kind of riding your planning on doing. If you do lots of road trips. the Ultra is the bike in my opinion. Hope none of this has hurt the feelings of either of my bikes... for they both get plenty of riding time.
