Inow own a Wide Glide. At the dealer today i for the first time climbed aboard a Ultra Classic. That thing felt real comfy. Salesmen showed me all the whistle and bells . Here question. I dont do long trips. I put 5500 miles on the dyna in year. I drive a truck long distance just get to ride about 250 miles a week if i lucky. Would that ultra be worth getting ? Just read a post on here about taking 3 hrs to clean. How are they just for putting aroundtown? Are they just for that 500 mile a day jaunt? Really liked that storage, CD, and the seat. Just cant decide if it would fit my riding habits. How about some feedback from you folks that own one of them . THANKS
I love mine, only bike I've had, so nothing to compare it to. I have no regrets, we plan to do long hauls, but so far my first 2k have been mostly smaller trips including lots of city driving. If you don't need the full tourpak maybe a Street Glide?
I was averaging about 10K per year on my 03 Heritage. I put 17Kon my 07 Ultra in the14months that I've owned it. I loved the Softtail, but the Ultra is just as fun around town and for short hops and having the lockable storage and the radio is great.
The Ultra isa nice ride, and I loved mine. But, I prefer the Road King for its vesatility. I have about the same $$$ into it as I would have had if I would have bought another Ultra, but I can strip it down for a solo, wind in the face hopper. Or in 20 minutes its dressed as an Ultra for 2up comfort or long distance running.
Had an 05 FXDC was a great bike but this Ultra is the cats meow. I mostly just ride around the country locally a big day is 200 250 miles and I just love all the room and comfort, and all the room, Now I have an excuse to ride it to the Grocery Store, I finally have enough room to put stuff. I don't think you will be disappointed and will love how much better it handles. I found myself really going into turns now and loving it. It has handling all over the Dyna series. Just my opinion I hope it helps.
To me, if ALL I were doing was long distance riding . . . YES the Ultra would be it. The Road King might be a little more versitile for you. Windshield on/off in seconds. Easy to add a quick detach tour pack (Leather or whatever). Yes, tunes yould be nice, but again, thats more of a long distance thing. Up to you, but for comfort, any of the FL's . . . You can't go wrong.
I have only owned one bike and that is my Ultra. I was going to get a Peace Officer Fat Boy, I was going to add bags, windshield, and running lights, that turns it into a Heritage. If I was going to get a heritage I might as well go all the way, so I got a Peace Officer Ultra Classic. I LOVE IT !! I rode from Naples Florida to Sturgis, 5100 miles round trip. The Ultra made the trip fun, my buddies who didn't have all the bells and whistles weren't liking the ride as much as I did. I am getting ready for a run up to D.C. for the Law Enforcement Memorial, having the Ultra there is no question about riding or trailering. When I ride around town it is still a blast. GO WITH THE ULTRA !!

3 hours to clean every nook and cranny...oh and wax! First time in 4 months.... Honestly not sure I did't spend a full day cleaning my old Deluxe too. For 250 miles a week I'd skip it. Then again you get an Ultra and you find yourself doing 250 one way (frequently)[8D]
I don't use everything every time I'm out but I use a lot of it often enough. I ride the bike pretty much daily and I also take vacations on the bike. 4 months 3K on the Ultra. 9k on the Deluxe in 1 1/2 years.
