Default Headset Mic Problem

Hello all, I borrowed a headset that looks like it is a J&M behing the head headset. I hooked it up and for some reason it is not broadcasting loud enough to be heard. This condition is while sitting still in the drive way. The only change I did regarding my comm is I shortened my antennas by about 6". I only shortened it by snapping off the longest part. It transmitts but not very loud.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I am heading out of town in the AM.

#1 - make sure the mic is almost touchin' yer lips.

#2 - for some reason, folks tend to talk softer when they've got a headset on - make sure yer speakin' in a clear, firm voice.

#3 - Git someplace (like a Truck Stop CB repair shop) that KNOWS CB radio, an' have 'em fix what ya screwed up. Antennaes are TUNED to a radio - one does NOT jest "snap off" a random length!!!!!!

I am having some of the same issues but it is with the passenger incom. Picked up a couple helmet speaker with mic sets from Whitehorse for $65.00 ea. Could not see paying $178.00 from Harley. Anyway, sound works from the radio in both sets. Rear volume control works. When I talk, radio mutes, passenger receives, radio goes back to normal. When my passenger speaks, and I told her to talk firm and with the mic up close, nothing. When I switched positions with hook ups, same situation, so both mics work. I read the manual - adjusted VOX and the AVC levels in every combination.
I did notice in the manual, it states only the Harley set up will work. Whitehorse shows as OEM, plug and play.
Thank you,

Why in the world would you "snap-off" 6" from a CB antenna - better order another, have it tuned, and DO NOT transmit on the one you have "pruned" or you may need a new radio too. Your SWR is probably sky high which can cause many problems including affecting transmit audio (like the problem you are now having).
