Engine braking could unsettle the suspension and cause you to take an unfavorable line through the turn. that is why it's not a real good thing. As far as casual riding with gentle curves, should be ok. Just be ready to be "on the gas" as you enter the turn.Just not a good habit to get into, And I've been riding long enough to pick up some really bad habbits. LOL.
I agree with Zimbob. Because of their low end torque, V twin engine brakingdoesn't have the finess ofbrakes and can give you a lot more braking then you wantcausing you to go unstable or even loosing traction all together.I can touch the rear brake if it turns out I'm a tad to fast, but I find that even just letting off the gas give me more braking then I sometimes want from the engine. The more I ride my bike, the less I use my engine to slow me down. It is a difficult habit to develop because I like using engine braking in my car.

I had a '77 RD400 cafe'd out and for the good/bad developed a technique of front brake hard/ rear light into the corner slowly letting off both brakes near apex, then accellerating out. You're right that there's no engine braking with a 2 stroke. Still use this method but to a lesser degree with my Evo chopper, it has a tendency to wash the front if I brake too aggressively. Some front brake does put some weight on the front tire giving more traction going in. Like to shift to the gear I want to exit with and ease the clutch in just past the apex. This is a ridgid so I certainly don't ride like I did on the RD.

Brake pads are a lot cheaper to replace than tranny parts!

Engine braking? I have seen signs when you come into a city that says,
"no engine braking in city limits"
Is that the same thing?
I thought an engine brake was a "Jake brake" like on my big truck.

Heck - I throw on my jakes at 2am going through the middle of town. I drive an 18 wheeled fuel truck...but alas - I'm talking about the brakes on my EGC.
