Downsizing handlebars
Hey all. I put 16” Yaffe monkey bars on my ‘17 RGU a couple years ago. I thought they were great but I have developed a rotator cuff injury and now it hurts like hell after 20 minutes in the saddle. I would like to switch back to stock bars but don’t want to have to change back to stock cables. Any suggestions how to deal with the 4 or 5 Inches of extra clutch and brake line? Any body else done this? Thanks.

You should be able to pick up some stock take off’s from someone that added taller bars pretty easy. If I had them I would give them to you. Ask around at the local Indy shops that do bars and maybe put in the “wanted” section here on the site. Do it right!

That's gonna be tuff.... the wiring can be hidden, looped, and zip tied.... but cables and brake lines are going to be in your face....
I saw a bike that shortened his bars. He slide the clutch cable down, so it looked good at the bars, and let the slack gather along its run to the clutch release cover. It developed a big loop in the clutch cable, hanging under the frame... looked terrible and also looked like it could catch on a road hazard...
You could change bars and leave the cable/brake line slack loose at the bars... You'll have a couple of big loops there... see how it looks to you... I've seen a few that were left in place from mini apes, that didn't look bad...
With cables from 16" apes, you will probably change back to shorter cables/lines... or maybe not.... but at least you gave it a look....
