Other than using DK's relocation kit that puts the filter behind the primary case, is it feasible to relocate it to the downtube while also using lower fairings? Has anyone doen this?
I wondered about this last year and I came to the conclusion that it wont work with lowers. I wanted to relocate it on my wifes 2006 Ultra but DK Customs doesnt make a relocation kit for a pre 2009 model. I ordered just the two filter relocation pieces without any hose or mounting brackets and proceeded to make my own mounting bracket. I had it powder coated and ran braided lines. I think it turned out well. The planning stage. I used cardboard templates to figure out the size and angles on the pieces. Test fitting to the oil filter relocation adapter. The fist rough cut stage. After shaping and polishing the pieces for powder coating. It mounts to the bike with a longer bolt on the swing arm axle mounting plate. After powder coating. The new oil filter location. The oil lines going to the adapter plate on the old filter location.
You did a nice job, but that is in a pretty fragile location.
Yes it is. I actually built the rough model of it twice because the first one wasnt high and tight enough. I pretty much got it as tucked in as I could so that its just protected by the floor board support and the front saddle bag guard. I knew, and Im not talking **** about my wife, that my fate would make her drop the bike on that side. Sure enough she did in her sisters driveway. Not a scratch on the oil filter, thank goodness. Looking down the bike on that side.
