Default Street Glide ride height

So, once upon a time, I believe I was told or I read that since I had replaced my rear wheel with a 200/55-17 that the rear was now 1" lower and that I could/should lower the front end 1" to match.
I am thinking of replacing the shocks and cartridges and am deciding whether to lower the front or maybe raise the rear.
I think the original was a 180/65-16
If I do the math it seems the 200/55-17 is actually a little taller.

???

You are correct , by the numbers the 17 is 1/2" larger diameter.
That`s a whopping 1/4" increase in ride height.
I`m going with it`s totally irrelevant

compared to my stock tire, the overall diameter is increased by a whole .1 inch. half that for ride height.... yeah, like eighteight says, irrelevant.

Shouldn't the first tire on the calculator be 180/65-18??

I would think skratch should know the tire size on his bike. They did come stock with 55's btw.

OP the SG does come already 1" lower in the back from the factory, so if you want to keep the same stance you have now stay with the 12" shocks. There are excellent 12" shocks with the same travel as most 13". Of course you can go taller if you so choose to "level out" the bike.

The question is about the OP's tire differences, not skratch's tires. I think skratch was trying to help the OP determine the actual height difference between the two tires that the OP had, not skratch's tires. I could be wrong tho.........

I knew the rear was 12" which is 1" lower than standard Touring however I assumed the front was also already 1" lower than Touring.
So the SG is *** down stock?

I have found websites showing the stock 2011 SG with a 180/65-16 tire. Is it really 180/55-16?

I drag pipes already so I was thinking of using 13" rear and adjust down to about 12.75".
I like the lowered look but dragging the pipe or my new stretched bags sucks.

BTW nice calculator

I just used the calculator and realized it was my front tire that was the issue. I have a 120/70-21 which is almost 2.5" larger in diameter so I have an extra 1.25" taller front.
The reduction in front tube would bring the front back down to stock.

used to be. for the past couple of years, the street glide/road glide customs have been coming from the factory with the 19'' front/ 18 inch rear tire combo. in 2017, the special came with the 19/18, while the others were 19/16. in 2018, the 'sporty' bikes (streetglides, customs, specials) started coming with the 19/18 combo fyi, there is very little difference between the 18'' and the 16'' relative to ride height. think it comes out to 3/10'' higher on the 18.

motojockey, you're pretty much correct in that i was trying to show the op the difference in sizes between his tire, and stock, assuming that he had a newer model street glide, which may or may not be the case.

it's also important to note, that even with 13'' shocks, you can still maintain the same ride height as the stock harley 12'' shocks. the aftermarket shocks will have more sag in their setup. i couldn't even get my hd 'premium hand adjustable' (aka stock) shocks to compress at all, even bouncing my *** off the seat. my 13'' legends felt lower to me. definitely more comfortable.

Guess I forgot to put year model. 2011 FLHX Street Glide.
I have decided to do rears first and have ordered the 13" Ohlins.
I was told the 13" has a much better function with the additional 1" of travel. I will work on leveling the bike when I do the fronts later.
