I ordered my ride with color and cruise control, security, and ABS (FLHR). Got a ship date. Called the dealer every other week to make sure all is good and going to make ship date with the extras ordered. They would check the computer and assure me that ship date was holding. Plan a few vacation days to enjoy the new ride. Call two days before the ship date to make sure one more time andwas told, yep it will ship but WITHOUT ABS. I ordered the bike from the dealer back in July. The dealer is about 1000 miles away and ordered from them to save some money and to be able to ride with some friends that live there.
Some where someone screwed up. He did say he would look for a dealer swap. But, the more I think about it the more wanting to say screw it.
The factory ships what the dealer orders ... exactly.
Lots of dealers (perhaps most dealers)didn't order ABS bikes, as this is the first year for that option & it adds $795 - they feltcustomers wouldn't want to pay the extra. The early ship date bikes were ordered months & months ago - this one was probably ordered w/o ABS -- dealer figured you'd probably take the bike as is, since it's lower priced than your local stores.
Talk with the General Manager or the Dealer Principal, insist that you have a written bill of sale that clearly states what you both agreed to for both price & options. A good dealer will find you the bike you ordered, even if it means a 500 mile drive at their expense. If they aren't cooperative, find a good dealer, or consider paying more to shop close to home.
Did they say why ABS would not be on it? Get the bike you ordered, raise the roof it necessary, go somewhere else, what ever you need to do, do it. At the price of new bikes you deserve the bike you want, I wish my bike had ABS I would feel a lot safer with them. Good luck and I hope you find your bike. If you take the bike they are offering you, I promise you will regret it every time you get on it, every time you look at it you will think about what they gave you and how they treated you. What else have they promised?
Get what you want. Waiting a little longer to get what you want instead of what they had is worth it in the end because you won't be thinking about the ABS option that you orginally ordered.
Man thats B.S. I wouldn't accept anything except whatI ordered and was agreed on. The ABS is the best feature of the 08 models, I wouldn't buy one without it. If you have to get your money and spend it elsewhere. If they wont return your money, get a lawyer.
Take the bike and start riding it until they can swap out the brakes. Sh*t happens. At least you will have it on time. Who knows how long it will take to get it right from the factory.
