The plan is to eventually get bluetooth headsets, just thought the wired ones would work till I did, A friend of mine owns the dealership where I purchased the bike and he threw it all in with the bike, He sold me the bike at his cost and gave me a huge discount on any add ons I wanted, Just didn't do my homework before hand on the headsets like I should have. I spoke with him this morning and told him what I found out, and he's going to make it right.
if you plan on going wireless eventually, and your friend is giving you a big discount, why not hang on to the WHIM for now? Maybe get that discount extended to a pair or 2 of the HD branded Sena headsets?
never said I was getting rid of WHIM, I'll just get some bluetooth headsets! Thanks for clearing this up for me, lessoned learned! At my age you'd think I'd know better than doing the impulse buy before getting all the info, but I'll never learn!
You can always unplug the WHIM and plug the wired harness back in to use the wired headsets (they plug into the same connector, its one or the other) until you get around to getting the wireless headsets, if its not going to be right away (its all under the fairing).
Then switch it back once you get the wireless headsets...
Of course you may have CarPlay issues (if you want to use that) until you get the WHIM plugged back in (because WHIM is enabled), unless the dealer disables WHIM for you, then re-enables WHIM once you hook WHIM back up ... its always something
You can’t go back and forth just by unplugging and replugging in the harness. The Boom needs to be flashed for the WHIM and you’d need to have it reflashed to go back.
I might have missed this in the comments, but the intercom is simple once you have your WHIM set up correctly. With the HD Sena's connected to the bike, all you and your passenger have to do is talk and it will transmit. The PTT is for the CB not the intercom.
The HD Audio 50s is worth the price of admission. I just recently switched over from the 20s and the difference is remarkable.
I was looking at the 20s vrs 30s vrs the 50s and was wondering what exactly you get with the 50s to make them so much better and expensive than the 20s?, I don't need the extra distance as its just me and the wife, I don't ride with anyone else. I just need something I can hear the stereo with, talk to her and use the phone when I want. The price difference in the harley brands compared to what you can get on Amazon is crazy!

Yes, price is crazy for sure. That's part of the reason we went with Cardo PackTalks. I can do everything you're hoping to do (and more) with the Cardo's. Plus they're waterproof (can't believe most aren't), have mesh technology, can go all day on a charge, control my music by voice or hand controls, etc. About the only thing I can't do, that a WHIM & HD Sent set-up can do, is connect to my CB wireless. Not a deal breaker as I'm using the CB less & less all the time.
You've already got the WHIM so it makes most sense to carry on down the HD Sena road. The Cardo's aren't cheap either, but we were starting from scratch so a WHIM & comms would have been considerably more.

The difference is all in the sound quality and battery life. But yeah, they're expensive. If you don't get the HD branded units, you lose stereo sound.
