Fangs? The little add on deflectors on the lower curve of the batwing? Previous owner already had those installed. LOL. First time I saw them didn't know what they were for or supposed to do until I messed with them. They didn't change much.
Yes. I have 2021 Street Glide. Had the fork fangs mounted. Eliminated buffeting. But then notice I get a lot of heat from right side engine. Removed cat. Not much help. Started searching and found couple threads about heat from right. Ended up removing fangs, installed those small wings, added mid-frame deflector on right side, and the heat is reduced. Not totally happy but better than before. Buffeting is a major issue. I would try to see if your buffeting comes from over or under the shield. Do some searches for buffeting, heat, and windshields....you will gain a lot of info there!

"Fangs" are lower wind deflectors that attach to the forks. The "fangs" nickname comes from their triangle shape, and they're usually chrome plated. They eliminate or reduce buffeting by reducing the airflow coming under the fairing and up along the sides of the tank. The deflectors you described that are attached to the bottom of the fairing are to direct airflow onto the rider. In my experience the fairing-mounted deflectors don't do much to reduce buffeting but the fork-mounted deflectors can be very effective at reducing or eliminating buffeting it.
I also have those DK Wings, they help only slightly, but I am hoping that they help with some cooling air for the engine.
Buffeting is the one big issue with a batwing that many of us deal with, and talk about.
The fork fangs, the wind deflectors on the forks, seem to be the one thing that actually cures a lot of the buffeting. I do not run them due to cooling air blockage, and the overall appearance of them.
As long as I am wearing my skull cap helmet, I don't have buffeting. As soon as I put my full face on, I am a bobble head above 70 MPH
I went with a slightly taller than stock windshield, but it's also 5" wider (2.5" per side). It's also a recurve. It's works SO much better than stock at reducing buffeting and allowed me to hear the stereo better as well. I went with the Clear View Shields GT model. They have several different heights, widths and shapes as well as 4 tint levels. I've been very happy with it. As others have said, I prefer to look over the windshield, makes seeing much easier in the rain or when the bugs get bad. But they have sizes for both over and through. The recurve and the extra width is what made the most difference for me.

Just another vote for a recurve LRS windshield, been using LRS for more than ten years and I like that it's easy to look over, but the air is deflected over my head.
For my street glide, I have a Freedom Shield and a Klock Werks. Go to their websites & measure how they tell you to, because how they measure the height is different.
My Freedom Shield is about 1/2" taller. The Klock Werks throws the air up a little higher. Both work about the same for me. I put the Freedom Shield on for multi-day trips because it's their touring width, so it's a little quieter. Klock Werks just looks better to me.
I have to run fork fangs. I have the Harley Davidson ones & I like how they look on my bike. At first I thought they were kind of weird, but I like them now.
I ride with a full face, with the shield up almost all the time. When it's windy I get some buffeting, but then I put my helmet shield down it goes away almost completely. I'm happy with this setup.
As far as removing the windshield screws, it just makes it easier so you don't have to wrestle & flex the windshield to get it out.
Try riding and when you get buffeting, hold your arm horizontal across your chest. If the buffeting goes away, the wind is coming from below the fairing/shield. Then you would have a different set of issues!!! Fangs, small shields under the front of the tank, different things to look at.
Oddly doing the arm at chest level didn't effect anything. However tonight/this morning coming home from work I decided to fold in the fairing "bat blades" and it cleaned the air up quite a bit. So now is the debate to remove them or or just keep them folded in until I get into cooler weather. They do get more wind off me when in proper extension but .......

I know its a Harley thing but really!! a non adjustable screen on a touring motorcycle.
I do miss the electric screen on my metric bike.
I cut the screen on my EG and it was perfect, then i bought the HD Heated\cooled seat.
It sits slightly higer so now i need that inch back.
I have a 13 Ultra. Bought it last summer. Had the stock windshield. I hated it. Went to the LRS 6.5 and really like it! I want to see over not through. I did just buy a 3.5 KW and it looks amazing but way more wind and noise. I remove all three torx screws to change shields. Just makes it easier.
I added the JES Customs wind fangs last fall. Their black and blend in nicely and make a slight difference with wind coming up from the ground.
Long Ride Shields, Klockwerks, or Freedom Shields - all will be better than a stock HD branded shield. All good suggestions listed so hit the various web sites on those listed and break out the credit card.
