Default Windshield

Hey all. Looking around for a replacement shield for my 13 FLHTCU. The one on there is 7 inch OEM. I'm in that weird spot that if I do the bobber slouch I am in clean air but if I sit up I get a good amount of buffeting.
Whats everyones preference and height?

Also......what am I missing when I am watching these videos. Being an ex mechanic for automotive something I am trying to understand is why is everyone taking the 3 top bolts out. All the shields have slide grooves in them. Can you not just loosen the the three enough to give you the gap and then retighten? The flat rate mechanic in me is asking why waste all that time ( very little I know) and risking, for some of these folks, cross threading.

Anyway. Just trying to figure out the windshield conundrum. Local dealer has demo windshields but I feel like an *** to go there, demo some then order from another company. That would irritate me if it was my company.

I like to look over the windshield....

I have had great luck with recurve designs, in that I can see over the windshield but they seem to work at pushing the turbulence above my head. On two bikes, my wife sits up higher than me, and they work enough that she doesn't experience any buffeting...

Try riding and when you get buffeting, hold your arm horizontal across your chest. If the buffeting goes away, the wind is coming from below the fairing/shield. Then you would have a different set of issues!!! Fangs, small shields under the front of the tank, different things to look at.

Klock Werks! I like to look over the shield, most of the time. I have the 6.5 smoked that I ride with most of the summer, but if I am going on a long mult-day trip that might have weather, I put the 10" Harley Windsplitter on that is clear, and I can see through.

Don’t forget to loosen the top torx screws on the left and right it gives extra clearance on the windshield

Fangs? The little add on deflectors on the lower curve of the batwing? Previous owner already had those installed. LOL. First time I saw them didn't know what they were for or supposed to do until I messed with them. They didn't change much.

Small shields under the tank..these?:

I use recurve windshields, they deflect the wind higher.. Recommended height is just below your nose. I like looking slightly over the top especially when it's raining. The info on this site is helpful in determining windshield height. I've had good luck with their 8" windshields.

I like the Madstad system with a LRS recurve shield modified to fit. The HD vent in the fairing is too small to relieve the vacuum created by the fairing above 50mph.

My ride is a 2019 FLHTP with the cop seat. So I'm 3 inches taller than the ElectraGlide standard seat.
