Yes it is insanity that is warmer and more comfortable around a bigger windshield. That is what the guys who put the cute useless ones on their bike say. Crazy talk cleaning regularly and polishing too.

Madness that people who ride in warm parts might feel different about the breeze

Riding at night with the dew, is why I decided to try a lower windshield. I keep it clean. Will also use MqQuires 10 17 once in a great while. Should do it more on 22 year old wind shield, or get a new one.

I suspect someone's height doesn't completely effect it, it is trunk height. Not sure how much that varies. Freedom shields says take painters tape and put it across yours and go for a ride. That seemed to work for me.

For me personally, it also comes down to if slouching a little or bolt upright. My last bike came with two shorts. I put the other on yesterday. I am kinda below in my normal riding, But can sit bolt up right and really get over it. That is probably my personal preference.
Can you show me on your bike the height of the windshield to the tour pack? I'm curious about this.

Freedom makes a wider shield, and with the recurve works great. I found mine on their "blem" listings and paid 75.00 and it was perfect. I would though....while your riding hold your hand near your face to see where the wind is coming from....alot comes from the gas tank area. You can also minimize this as well with some accessories.

To the original poster.... you have a lot of discussion on windshields. Some are gonna argue with you regardless.
I want to offer a different solution/test. Next time you get head buffeting, place your left arm horizontal across your chest. If this reduces or eliminates the buffeting, then the air is coming from below the fairing/windshield and taller may not help. I used fork fangs until this new bike.....too much heat from right side. So I removed the fork fangs and installed lower tank fairing/deflector from DK Customs. This eliminated the buffeting and helped to direct more air down around the cylinders. They have several you tube videos regarding this.
My current windshield is below my chin, the tank deflector keeps the buffeting at bay. So there's something else to consider.

It will be dependent on the height of the rider I think. I’ve run that deflector alone, then with fangs, then took the deflector off. I had a Freedom Shield on the whole time.
Just speaking for me, the recurve windshield with the fork fangs had the most impact. I can ride at 100mph and things stay pretty agreeable behind the fairing.

I held my left hand up horizontal on top of the middle of the windshield and it solved the problem. Will ride again tomorrow and decide on a windshield to order.

Im 6'2", 34" inseam. The stock clear shield top edge is right in my sight line. I would need to cut a couple of inches off the top to get it inline with my nose but its not a recurve so no reason to cut this one. I'll see what the dealer has for loaner.

Another consideration is if you're going to change your seat later, you might need to change the windshield, depending on how low or high the new seat brings you.
