Sometime ago I did have a problem with my Power Commander. Sent it back to DynoJet, they replaced it in a couple of days, bike runs great after almost 20,000 miles. They have great customer service. Give them a call.

I wouldn't trust the dealers opinion. They recently told my buddy that synthetic oil will actually wear out and damagehis engine and if you runany other than HD SYN 3 it will void the warranty!!! yeah.......right..!!!

Must be from the same "stupid dont have a clue" HD training school.

Steve

From what I understand just about everything/anything that's electrical on the bike runs through the ECM.
Last summer my son and I attemped to drive a steel stake up through my right muffler on my '06 standard. It wouldn't go through, so I removed the muffler and banged on it more. Never could get the stake to fully go through. We then went to a hole saw.. just burntthe teeth off thesaw.. My son then got one of his diamond hole saws out.. Still didn't go through. I put the muffler back on. Started the bike, sounded better.. then the engine light came back on for about 5 seconds. Turned the engine off and restarted.. Samething ... the engine light came back on after the engine started. I took the bike for a ride around the block ... Lost all the dash lights, including the speedo and tachall stoppedworking. This problem kept happening till I put a 20 amp fuse in place of the 15 amp. I rode it this way for a couple of months. Still being to cheap to buy slip-on's... I removed the right muffler, took my 4" muffler cutter and parted my muffler at the weld. Found a cat about the size of a can of beans in there. Took it out and rewelder the muffler. Cranked it up, sound was great. The engine light was back to normal! A few months later when I was installing my air temp and oil pressure gauges, I seen where one of my electrical connectors in the fairing was shorting on the fairing mount. So to sum my thoughts up.. Just about any short circuit in the bikewill effect the ECM. If it's wired to it it can effect it. I finally installed a TFI, ac, and VH longshots on the bike. If it ain't broke don't work on it.

Default RE: PCIII frying ECM's??? **UPDATED**

So as I was perusing posts in the Electrical/Ign./Ecm section I came across what turned out to be my "problem" all along...

First off I must say my dealer is a ***** and I will not be returning. They told me I had 3 bad circuits on my ECM and it would need to be replaced. I asked specifically about the 5 year 18K mile warranty on ECM's.. He asked if I had an extended warranty, I do not I said, he said it wasn't covered then.. I called another dealer and asked the same question and they confirmed what I had learned here that indeed there is a 5/18 warranty on ECM's.. This pretty much pist me off as I felt I had been directly lied to... I went and got my bike and took itto my regular wrench and tried a fix that forum member TickTock had said worked on his wife's bike, who BTW was having similar issues, and who also had a PCIII on it and whoseECM was replacedUNDER WARRANTY!!! Well when that didn't work, he said that the steel braided spark plug wires were arching and causingthe problem, went back to stock wires and no more problems... Sooo I rode over to my guy, we switched out the spark plug wires and now my bike runs great!!! Thanks again TT... The simple fix saved me about 800 bucks!!!

Love this forum... Now I can kinda inderstand why so many people seem to have problems with their dealer...
