You mean where slip on attaches to the pipe? That was a BITCH to take off too. The pipe was all rusted.

Spray a little liquid wrench around the slip joint of the muffler, they will slip off and on with ease, will smoke a minute or so when started.

Your dealer was gonna charge 360 bucks to pull wheels and change tires? Damn…mine quoted me $220 with the wheels on the bike, and $110 if I took them off (Street Glide Special ). I am a cheap bastard, so I took the wheels off myself but it was a pita for me too (my first time taking front and rear off ). I have a Harbor Freight moto/atv Jack that I use, and it does ok, I only paid about $150 for it a few years ago. I would recommend one, but the bike wasn’t real stable with both wheels off and that high off the ground, so make sure you pick up some ratchet straps too if you get one.

Not sure of your rear setup but on my rear, I swapped the axle direction.

Did need to use a torque adapter since torque wrench will not fit under muffler. (Torgue adapter is simple a box wrench with a 1/2 sq on other end). Use it at 90 doesn't change torque. Straight increases capacity of torque wrench.

Put antiseeze on axle . Gray moly type.

Or use it in a straight line like one normally does and adjust your torque value using a simple formula based on the additional length of the torque adapter.

Adjusting the Torque

(Torque Wrench Length) * (Torque Desired)

Divided by:

(Torque Wrench Length) + (Extension Length)

Yes. Clean it and the inside of the muffler with emery paper or even common sandpaper. Just knock off the crud and chunks and make them smoothish. Apply anti seize and reassemble.

Apply it to the screw of the clamps, they are prone to rusting and jamming.

The anti seize will burn off, but leave remains that will make future work much easier.

This is the Touring forum. The OP stated he had to remove the left pipe, which would indicate the bike also has a right pipe. Swapping the axle direction isn't going to make the next tire change any easier.

[QUOTE=maxxym;21160408]First time today. Never again unless I have a lift. Efffff that. I ended up removing left pipe. What a pain in the *** that was, but it was my first time, so there were some lessons learned./QUOTE]

Yuppers. I have V&H powerduels and had to remove both mufflers. I also have HF lift table, but the opening at the back of the deck ain't large enough to drop the friggin wheel through,so you still have to wrestle that pig outta there!
BTW...an alloy wheel, 180/55-18 tire, belt pulley, and brake rotor weight 60 lbs! That's a lot of uffda to wrestle back in place by yourself. Next time I'm going to put bike on lift table and rig up a hoist over a garage rafter to easily sling the whole shebang into place.

Check tire rotation when you pick up the tires, don't wait until you get home.

Great idea on rotation. I put a blue masking tape on front “right” ride of the wheel and showed it to the guy doing the tires. He knows his stuff. He builds custom bikes.
