Default Shark Fin end Caps

My 2001 SE Road glide currently has the 65066-01 Billet style end caps and the SE muffler plugs have been removed. I am considering changing to the original shark fin end caps 65263-97. Without seeing the end profile of these end caps I can not tell if the flow could be restricted and I could see a drop or change in performance or sound. Currently the bike is pretty loud and the performance is great. Will the performance or sound be effected to any noticeable degree?

I have the billet end caps, sharkfin end caps and the sport taper ones, turn out on the way and the billet are loudest by far, next is sport taper and shark fin. There is a big difference in sound from the bilet to shark fin ones, muck quieter espcially at lower rpm, on the road cruising they are also much quieter and when you open it up they sound good and deep but still quieter, I never ran different end caps on a dyno but seat of the pants dyno it feels like there was slightly more low end and it did not seem to rev as quick but it was all very slight difference. If you put the shark fin ones on watch out they bite you ! They bstick out from the back of the bike further and are pointy and like to peel flesh from your shins.I cut dowm a bright yellow sponge and stick a chunk in each tip when parked to help avoid this.

Thanks for the information.
How do the shark fins look from the rear of the bike? Is there a photo and end view anywhere?

I ordered the shark fin ends from Chicago Harley at a 20% discount. I am curious why they are not in the 2007 catalog but the number is still good? Anyway, my wife and daughter both liked them better than the billet style so that is who made the final decision.

Well harley discontinued the 65263-97 shark fin end caps and Chicago Harley canceled my order.
I am checking with my local dealer to see if he can locate two of them.

Check ebay, got mine there for 30 bucks for the pair shipped, they were used and had scuffs on the bottom but are not seen when on. I also purchased a pair of turnout end caps from a forum member, sent the money order a couple days ago and hope he comes through, 30 for those shipped too. It is nice being able to change them around from time to time for a different look and different sound. With the turnout ones I am going to point them at about a 45 degree angle and when some bundart in a cage is tailgating me I will wander close to the shoulder, slow down slightly downshift and hammer the throttle hopefully kicking up a bunch of debris in their face !!! 20 years ago I rode with a baggie of bbs or marbles or gravel but no more.

randy,

Is this the type of sharkfin you're asking about?
Sorry for the quality of the closeup pictures.

They do change the pitch of the muffler not a deep & You ALWAYS have to remember they're there when you back up to the curb...

Good Post,
I also have the 06 Screamn' Eagle Performance Touring Pipes with the billeted tips and do not like the sound, which to me is likea set of jack hammers on the open road. I was thinking of trying the turn down tips to see if that would change the sound and or quiet it down a little, but have heard changing tips wouldn't make any difference. Has anyone elseexperience this type of situation and what type of tips would you recommend?
I'm just about at the point of changing back to my Harley Touring mufflers, so all comments are welcome; also losing high frequency level in the right ear, so maybe changing wouldn't be such a bad thing (just wanted a little rumble).
