Got a 93 electraglide. I first started noticing this problem by my Bluetooth adapter plugged into my cigarette lighter going out and coming back on on a sunny day last weekend. As the day got later , my buddy tells me he has been noticing my headlight flickering off and on , so now I started to do research at a restaurant we stopped at for food. We began the journey back home after the sun was almost set , so now the gauges were more visible of any issues . Before getting on the freeway almost all my lights were flickering on and off , cigarette lighter matching the power loss , and my rpm guage kept losing power as well. On top of this now the motor started cutting in and out . I tippy toed her home for the next hour + on the freeway to where I finally reach my road. At that point I lost all lights till I finally pulled into the garage and everything came back on. The research I found talked about switching the starter relay and the brake relay saying something like a bad relay and disrupting the energy flow. So I change both the relays and have noticed the blue tooth wasn't flickering causing it to shut down, radio was staying on , rpm is raining and lowering how it should , everything was back to normal. Until today, very intermentsntly, I'll lose my Bluetooth, my radio loses power , my rpm was stuck at 2200rpm I was easily doing close to 3000rpm. This forum has been wonderful helping me with my Softail , so now hoping I find the right gurus to hopefully help out with this unfortunate event now . Thanks a lot fellas
Just spitballing here – my buddies 2000 CVO Rd. glide smoked it stater about a week ago. It was showing less than 12 V on the voltage gauge. Can you put a meter on the bike and see if it’s pushing 14+ volts?
Oko, thanks for the reply , at idle it's around 13.. push the rpm up to 2k or so and it's around 14.25...(I did also just put in a new stator rotor since the "probably original" had a little tiny chunk taken off of it , I was in there replacing tranny seals so it only made sense to replace it while it was apart)
during the day it's hard to notice if anything cuts out , the biggest tale is that my music will stop via the Bluetooth device connected to the cigarette lighter. At night its a whole lot easier to see when it cuts out due to the sun not being present and can see when everything is illuminated and that's when I will see the radio cut off , the Bluetooth not lit up blue like it always is as soon as you turn power on , and the rpm gauge will be at a dead 2k rpm when I know I'm around 2800. Right now it's super intermittent, on a half hour ride it cut off and back on in seconds and did it about two times today since I changed the starter and brake relay . The other day after I changed those relays , I went on a good hour half cruise with no issues , but now it is back

I took apart the battery cables and used a little fine sandpaper on the ends to freshen up the surfaces also at the starter . I gotta look up where the fuse box is , my relays are supposed to be behind one the left side cover but they are actually under the seat by the battery. Just weird how my problem isn't nearly as bad as it was after I changed these relays , but it's definitely intermittent and didn't solve the whole issue
Those year bikes had issue with the main circuit breaker. If I recall correctly, I replaced the 30 amp breaker with a 40 amp breaker on the dealers recommendation. And it corrected the weird problems I was having.,,,

I think these are the only fuses I have on the bike. Are these the fuses you swapped from 30 amp to 40 amp

You'll have to forgive me as I did this 20 years ago. There should be 2 wires attached to the pos terminal of the battery. One goes to the starter, and the other is the main circuit breaker feed. That should be a 30 amp breaker. As I said in my other post, the Dealer told me to change it to a 40 amp breaker. The reason they said was the 30 amp breaker gets hot, and is prone to failing. There's no need to change the other breakers or fuses. Just go over them and make sure the connections are clean and tight. This repair worked for me, on my stock bike with no other fancy electrical devices installed.,,,
