Default Batwing on 2003 Road King CVO

Hi all, I am considering a Batwing Fairing for my 2003 RK CVO as I find myself going on frequent, long distance rides. My current windshield does a "ok" job but I find it fatiguing after a couple hours on the highway. For now, I am not interested in music/radio, so just the outer fairing will be adequate provided it can be successfully installed. I have found a reasonably priced, outer fairing only, which was taken off a 2003 Electra Glide. Does anyone know if such fairing can be mounted without extensive (expensive) modifications? Any ideas for a more comfortable long distance ride will be appreciated.

Regards,
Rick

If it's just the outer fairing there will be some kind of fabrication to mount it without the inner fairing, does it have the stock headlight? if not that will have to be addressed, saying that I believe there are aftermarket batwing fairings out there that could possibly fit they mount kind of like a windshield, however if you like to fabricate and you have scrap laying around cost should be minimal.

We will be launching pre-orders for our fairing in the next few weeks.

Not the exact answer to the question you asked (I realize this) but I really like my Memphis Shades fairing on my Road King.

No death wobble or buffeting....but fork fangs probably made about as much difference as going from a full Road King windshield to a fairing.

Your mileage may vary.

Yea, I had a Memphis on my 03 RK for a while, had no issues with it either, hooked up to the windshield mounts, pretty easy fix for the OP vs playing with what he's planning.

I agree Memphis Shades is one of the less expensive you can go complete for your King. It might be slightly smaller than the H-D batwings. Another is by Tsukayu. They're good quality and can get a "glove box" for storage and a lock. Others are in the $800 - $1000 range for a plain-Jane version.

I have this one by Dead Center Cycles. It's the same dimensions as the pre-2014 batwings with easy on and off in a few seconds. I have it with a 12v power port and a lock. They can paint to your CVO color for extra and the nice thing is I can use any H-D fairing accessories like windshield, fairing trim, wind deflectors, etc. I use mine mostly during the colder months and on long trips. Here's my '13 King in winter config.

Lordie, that's as slick as a "mole" I've got an 03 FLHRCI with the detachable windshield. Trying to zero in on the attachment question. Does that rig just slide down in to the existing detachable set up, or otherwise just use the existing bolts that attaches the detachable hardware.

Another with Memphis Shades fairing. Easily mounts to your windshield hardware. I paid less than $300.00.
