So I pulled the left side muffler and drilled 4 - 1/4 holes around the outside of the opening on the inlet side. I dont have a bit long enough to reach the center plug. I also drilled 4 holes in the outlet end of the muffler in the center plug.
The right side mufflers inlet is all together different. It has a folded mesh type inlet screen, I couldnt keep the bit from walking to drill holes in the perimeter steel around the mesh, so no mods to the inlet end. I drilled 4 holes in the outlet center plug.
I took it for a quick run; it has a tad bit louder & deeper exhaust note and runs the same I think Im going to remove the plug on both outlets.
Yes, I bought a 12" long 1" and 1/2" drill bits and they worked great to drill out a 1" hole in the center of the back of my OEM mufflers on my 2018 Ultra Classic.
The V&H mufflers that the po installed, made the bike pop badly on deceleration, robbed the bike of power and they are too loud and sound shitty so, it did not come with a quality set of slip-ons!!
I like the way the bike performs with the stock mufflers, but would prefer they be a bit louder. If you had ANY reading comprehension you would know I am NOT going full ghetto.
If you have no experience to add to the conversation, take a big gulp of shut the ***k up and move on.
Because you had decel pop does not equate to a shitty set of mufflers but quite possibly a shitty install. If you don't have a good gasket seal on the head you will get decel pop and your performance will suffer. Furthermore Vance and Hines have been making high quality exhaust systems for well over 40 years. They don't make ****!
Yep, that's basically it. No longer have it, but I bought it at Princess auto. Canadian version of harbour freight. But I haven't seen one there in years.

Now there's a man after my own heart. No far-ing about there. Once and Done!

Thanks for everyones input.
Seems we had differen't mufflers to deal with. You said U were working on an 01. Do you still have the stock headers with the crossover behind the rear cylinder. If so there is more exhaust going out the rt rear and that is where you get a back rush of cold/ambient temp air up the left pipe. I also had this issue when I did my upgrades in the cam chest and added a tuner. That has my AFR ariund 13.5, just to the rich side. ThunderMax as I'm sure other tuners do as well have fuel cut at various RPMs in the program but even they admit that is suspect. If you had a newer exhaust set up then who knows. I see less and less of the Decel pop as time goes by as better exhaust and muffler designs come on line.
With my homemade rig on the left side It doesn't restrict much if ANY exhaust espically due to the majority exiting the right side anyway. When I was told about this the Indie shop I go to said to hold my hand s down at the muffler and there is a big difference. That right side prrovides the least resistance cause that crossover has 3 more turns to make before it exits.
Another note of intrest, when I was advised to look that modified freeze plug over. It is actually a knock off a product sold by Zipperes called "Pop Stopper". price was well worth it but even asking nicely, the shipping remained at 32.00 as I recall for a 4.00 part. So this isn't just my hair-brained hack, another reputable business had come up with the design and seems to work well enough for them to be on the market.
I think clearing that right side muffler will be real helpful.
Luck favors the Brave and the Foolish.
After drilling the 4- 1/4 holes in each exhaust end plug, I decided to go a bit larger and drilled a 1/2 hole in each. This is the best configuration by far. It has a nice low sound, that is not annoyingly loud, and maybe a bit more power than the stock unaltered mufflers no popping on deceleration!
