I am the recent purchaser of an '06 Ultra, and a stickler for good Customer Service - probably because it doesn't exist much anymore (showing my age?). I recently brought my Ultra in for it's 1,000 mile service.
I arrived home last night to find a message on my answering machine from my dealer, asking how my bike was and did I have any problems since my service! To top it off, I didn't even buy the bike from them...I had bought it on a whim out of state.
I was impressed. Years and years of doing business with Metric dealers (who were nice enough for the most part), and never a phone call asking if everything was ok.
Cool. I'm always happy to hear that someone remembers the concept of customer service. And it's nice to know some dealers recognize that business AFTER the sale is still business!
Not sure if it's the norm, but my dealership gave me a loner while my bike was in for service. I wanted a V-Rod, but they didn't have any. They did give me a choice of any used bike they had though which i thought was cool.
I bought my 04 Ultra from Boswell's H-D in Nashville, TN and I live in Memphis. I get my service work done here locally at Bumpus H-D. When I had a problem with the brakes rusting up with only 1100 miles on the bike, they came and picked it up at my house....fixed it all under warranty....and did the 1000 mile service and gave it an awesome wash all at the same time. They went out of their way to take care of me and that left an awesome impression that they really care about their customers.
I have bought all of my accessories there and they remember me by name when I come in. This is a huge dealership and it's a large city, but they still take the time to remember names and just give the small town charm that is missed at any car dealer in the country. I am convinced that this dealership wants repeat shoppers and they have me as one. When I get ready to buy again....it will be at Bumpus H-D.
Good luck to all and remember that how we treat the dealer when things are not going our way, seem to help them treat us better the next time.
I've got absolutely no proof to back up my theory, but I think HD might be demanding the dealers treat customers better. From what I heard around my dealership, Corporate HD has been cracking down based on customer complaints.
