I live in Indianapolis and IMPD does not even have a vehicle theft division anymore. It takes hours for them to respond to file a report.
We had a jeep stolen from my work. Got the video of the dude loading his bicycle in the jeep and driving off. The car lot that owns the car had gps on it. Located it in a small town 10 miles west of the city at a laundry mat. The local police department wouldn't do anything until they had a police report from IMPD.
That report took 4 hours to get,by then the car was at McDonald's same town. Police arrest the guy we get the car back. 3 days later they released the thief stating "we can't charge a guy for driving a car that someone else might have stolen" What the f#@? Op I hope they at least catch the no good bastards.
Air Tags might be okay, but it's bluetooth based. A nearby BT device has to be nearby the air tag and have access to iCloud to work.
A GPS tracking device might be better but are expensive and usually carry a subscription, like thise one.
Someone needs to invent a "Remote activated Spike" that comes up goes right up the thiefs *** !

Appreciate your contribution to this conversation RKZen.
I'm thinking this might be a worthwhile investment, especially if you can track real time!
Might also keep you from going to jail, because I'll tell ya, after getting ripped off of your bike that ya love so much, you can imagine what you might do (or want to do) to the CS'ers that took it from ya.
Got a call today. Bike was recovered and sitting in impound. No suspects at this time which really sucks. Also, I cannot geta description on what shape the bike is in. All they will tell me is body is fair. and unknown if it can drive. It was pretty clean when they stole it which leads me to believe the damage is bad. Hopefully the insurance company can get in to look at it and send some pics. Hopefully they catch the asshats that did this. It was found it a trailer with several other bikes.

Well, I wouldn't have thought this would have happened, would have been nice catching the ba$tards. Not sure finding it's a good thing. Good luck Ozzy

While catching the the bastard and them needing a little persuasion to give up the goods is supremely satisfying in the moment, the legal fall out down the road can be substantial. Been there did that...
I believe so, but they really didn't give me a lot of details. It was a cop in Denver that called to let me know they found. I got a call into the lead investigator. Hopefully she can give me some details.
