For sure the Ultra is the Big Comfy Couch. I suppose you could modify a SG to get almost the same level of comfort. You need to decide what is more important to you and your SO...comfort or a cooler/lower ride.
Throw some cash at good 12 Ohlins or Pro Action shocks it will be better but not as good as a 13 shock. If you can Handle the ultra I would personally stick with it.
I went from a RG Ultra to a RG Special. We're not doing week long trips and didn't need the tour pack. The RGS is a crisper ride for the day trips out of the box BUT there are things you must do for 2-up riding. I know its not a Street Glide but its close.
* The stock seat BLOWS for comfort and forces you too close to the tank. I switched to a Tall Boy seat, added an HD docking fit back rest and have done long weekends comfortably
* The stock wind screen was changed to HD's replacement 1 size larger
IMO, the bike is now perfect. My other big suggestion is change the rear shocks (we all know that so forgive me for being Capt Obvious). I went with Legends and best investment ever.
I am looking at going from an ultra to a SG. My research says this is not a good idea if you do a lot of two up riding. Which i do. Does anyone have some suggestions for making it a smooth ride. The ole lady enjoys riding, and I would like to keep her comfortable. Am I better off just sticking with the ultra? Was also thinking maybe a low as I am shorter. The I read a lot on losing suspension with the ultra low. They are discontinued so must ne a reason. Looking for everyone's thoughts.
Thanks
Isn't an Ultra just a SG with all the accoutrements to make it a better 2 up tourer than a SG? So the question is, why are you looking to go backwards and dump money into a SG to make it like an Ultra?

Pro-Action does 13 shocks if you want them. They ask. I went with 12 as they are PAs, best shock out there,
Lower to the ground and easier to balance. Getting old with bad knees.
You can buy or modify your seat and lower the shock to a quality 12 as others have suggested. But I have the feeling you just want something new. Nothing wrong with that!
