Compensator for an 09
I replaced the "A" version tensioner in my '09 stage 1 RG a couple of years ago with the "C". Comparing the two I didn't see anything different except for the things you noted and visible in the pic. I didn't see any additional plastic on the "C". The spacers used on the "A" are removed and not needed to install the "C" and (my speculation) might improve the strength and stability (less flex) of the tensioner because it has better contact with the inner primary, I've been keeping a check on the chain tension by removing the derby cover and using a long screw driver and a flashlight every 1000 miles or so and so far it has been ok. I would be interested to learn which parts are plastic on the "C" that you heard about.
Thanks.
I have never actually held one, but found a pic of one. It looks like on the top portion of the mechanism attached to the shoe, the upper ramp with the teeth that rides on the bottom ramp, is made of plastic... On both the "A" and "B" versions, both ramps with teeth were metal...
Here's the pic I used that led to my comment... But like I said, I've never held one myself... If I am seeing this wrong, please set me straight...
Next time I remove the primary i will take a look at the part you pointed out but I don't remember it being plastic. Then again things sometimes don't register with a high mileage memory such as mine.
If you hear of any issues with the "C' let us know.
Bike has stock (Stage 1) TC96, ridden solo, warmed up before getting revved (sometimes short-shifted the first few miles) or having load on the engine when really cold. It is serviced more regularly than recommended and ridden pretty conservatively. The kick-back on hot starts was just getting too annoying and I figured the starter wasn't liking it much either.
Not more than a few thousand miles after the compensator replacement the starter motor went - should've saw that coming.
