There are vehicle dealerships out there (not limited to motorcycles) that follow this practice with pre-owned vehicle sales - advertising a price but then the “fine print” lists an additional “recondition” fee…..1 HD Dealership in my area very notably does this same thing (usually about $1200 per bike = recondition charge), while another advertises “No Added Dealer Mark-up, Fees, or Setup”, so your experience while undesirable with buyers, is not uncommon by any means.

Buyer Beware - Happy Shopping

Can't do that. It must be sold for the advertised price (at least in the US) there will be the * with the stipulations on the ad like tax, title, etc. I once saw a T shirt display at Walmart for the sporting type shirts for 7 cents. I had 3 very active highschoolers at the time. Took a pic of the sign and called the manager over. I told her about their mistake but wanted 3 shirts at the advertised price. When she hemmed and hawed, I told her I'd buy the whole rack for the advertised price which was like 30-40 shirts. Needless to say, my kids got the shirts.

If you fall for it. Let the thing rot where it is.
By time they add this and that 10K of a 2005 RK

Low to high retail $4.700 to $6,200. 0ffer $5,000 for it.

Oh sure they can - vehicle dealerships everywhere have this exact same practice. The “ * “ on the actual sales sticker, physically on the vehicle, states and lists any additional fees, markups, etc….

This in no way is relevant to your example for retail goods advertised sale prices on items like clothing - whole different dealeo…..

It's just another scam to separate a fool from his money.
The dealer pays trade in value then sells for retail. The reconditioning costs are figured into those numbers.
If the bike was in need of tires, brakes etc when traded in most dealers offer less than trade in value.

As mentioned several times, this practice is common and just another way to get deeper into your pockets ... The scooter is overpriced ... If you are in a financial situation where a dealer is your only alternative you are in a bad place ... Take a step back and reevaluate your alternatives ... Good Luck

When we were looking for a used Jeep, we stopped by the dealer to see what they had, see different models, compare pricing, etc. then we went elsewhere.
There was another local used car dealership that specializes in Jeeps, so we went to see them.
They had several in our price range that looked quite nice. All upgraded w/ lifts, wheels, tires, etc.
When we started talking price on one that we liked, we learned that there was an additional charge of nearly $10K for the upgrades.
This amount was NOT included in the listed sale price ON THE WINDOW STICKERS!

We walked.
Ended up purchasing a totally stock model elsewhere. I'll do the mods I want for way less.

I’m stand corrected. I don’t want to give anyone bad advice. Sorry. It just seems wrong. Dealers must love a nice clean trade in. They make bank twice vs a guy buying a bike off the floor with no trade in.
