kinda lookin at a new to me 2005 road king custom. 21k miles they are askin 8800 for it. then they say its 9970. they say the increase is for a recon fee. i assume it means reconditioning fee. they want me to pay for putting it back into first rate shape. is that the norm these days. give one price then say obtw, its 12 bucks more for the rehab work. the want ME to pay for their doin business, as i see it. AGAIN, IS THAT THE NORM THESE DAYS??
By recon, do they mean certified? Is it $8,800 as is and $9,970 recon. new tires, brakes etc. sold certified. I've never heard of a recon fee, when buying a bike.

Tell them you are going to call the state AG's office and ask them for feedback on their business practice. If they advertised the lower price and then told you it was more money when you got there, that's probably not kosher legally.
Multiple dealers in my area do this. It's for maintenance items. Oil changes, tires etc. Funny thing is they charge it both ways. Lowball their offer for your trade AND pass the charge to next guy. Win win for the dealer.
Whether or not it's negotiable, well that I don't know. Back when I first came across this in 2021 I wound up buying private party instead
