There is an alternative to a tour pack, just depends what and how you want to use it.
This bag from RickRak is pretty much the same as a normal suitcase that you would take on a plane but designed as a quick release for use on a bike.
This video shows John from CycleFanatix getting pretty excited about it...plus if your interested in it using his link will get you a 10% discount... Oh and did I say it cheaper than a tour pack..
