I was going to change out the exhaust system on my 2005 Ultra. I currently have a Screamin Eagle set-up and want to get rid of the Y pipe under the seat (because of the heat). I asked the local Harley service guy for an opinion and they said stay away from the Rinehart header pipe and go with Vance & Hines. He indicated the Rinehart header lays on the starter and the V&H does not. He was not opposed to Rinehart slip-on mufflers with the Vance and Hines. In addition, he suggested going with the Race-Tuner over the Power Commander...thoughts on this?. Anybody gone with this set-up or have any issues with their Rineharts laying on the starter? Thanks
Save some bucks.......You don't need a whole system, just the headpipes. Reuse your current slip-ons Just bolt on a set of V&H Duals. You can get them for right under 300 bucks delivered.
Rinehypes did have a problem a few years ago with the rear pipe breaking at the starter mount. They have since, allegedly corrected that issue.
Race Tuner over a Power Commander? Sure, what else would you expect a HD wrench to tell you? Either will work great if set up properly. However, a lesser expensive DFO will also do a good job. It is my choice.
Your bike has the Delphi EFI and I'd be buying the ThunderMax system and pocketing the savings later from dyno tuning you won't need. XXXFLHRCI and I are Magneti-Marelli and the cost of the EFI conversion to T-Max is ugly!! PCIII-usb is working out great for my latest mods, with the HD Stage II download as a "limp-home" backup. Ride Free!
Sounds like a good plan. I was thinking on the way home from work, the system I have now is all Screamin Eagle...including the mufflers. I'll take your advice and just get the V&H headpipe...although my wife said she really likes the sound of the Rineharts. I prefer to keep the money in the bank. Appreciate the information about the tuner as well. My bike has the 103 engine with the SE 6 speed. It was all done when the bike was brand new (still have the original stuff that was replaced). It only has 4K miles but has always run great.
Scott I have the Rienhard True Duals and they do not lay on the starter, Idon;t trust the stuff that the shop guys tell me after some of the stuff I have been told by them. The kit comes with a new bracket for the starter and you replace it as part of the install. I have never wrenched my own bike before the New Harley and it took about8 hours for all my mods and a new PCB III Power commander and Stage 1 Air kit with the new pipes and headers
I had the screamin eagle mufflers, then put on the V&H true duals and hated the sound. Took it all off and put on the rinehart true duals and love them. The V&H did install a little easier. The Rineharts install fine, just run closer to starter and left side I had to lower the passenger floorboards one notch.
The mufflers were the screamin eagle pro one piece performance mufflers 64903-99. Sounded good at idle but at 70 MPH on the highway it sounded like an old chevy with no muffler x 10. Absolutely unbearable for me and all behind me. The rineharts have the low rumble at idle and sound good at 3,000 rpm's on thehighway but LOUD when you crank it.
Just my opinion from someone who's had both.
The mufflers are for sale if anyone's interested. They sounded fine with the stock pipes.
I went with V&H duels, PCIII and my Wild Pig slip-ons that I already had. Liked the sound of the W-pigs and adding the V&H Duels made them sound even better. I have over 10,000 miles this way and have not had a minutes trouble.
Oh yes got more hp and torqueand the Rienharts sound great ( they sceam at top end and even the idle sounds awesome) and I love it but the price is high for the headers and muffles and was lucky enough to have won a 500 dollar gift card from my Harley Dealer to help but with 15% discount buying at the dealership and the card I paid about 800 vice about 1500 for all of it and did the install myself... I will always wrench my own now... Cams are next...
Rineharts do NOT "sit on the starter". They have a bracket that mountsat the starter, but so do the OEM pipes. You might consider saving even more money and going with the Fulsac kit that converts your stock header pipes to true duals. You could do that and then go for Rineharts slip-ons!
